article submission and duplicate content

    I have a question:

Till today, I have never submitted my articles more than once. However, I see so many submitting the same article in many article directories...is it a "good" thing to do? I always thought that the same article if submitted to many directories leads to the creation of duplicate content and can backfire in link buildimg process...any feedback?

I'm not sure if there's any value to submitting the same articles to multiple article sites, but I know you won't get penalized for doing it. Just make sure you submit your article the first time to a site you feel is most effective. Then let Google index it. This will let Google know where it originated so they will know what is duplicate when it spots the same content on other sites. The value of the duplicates probably won't be effective, but for traffic purposes it can be useful.

I feel that in some point in time they will be penalizing for duplicate content if you submit to several directories, so what I do is stick the article first on my site leave them there for a couple of days and then submit to just one article directory.

I also change the article ever so slightly, ussualy with more detail and add pictures which of course will not be in the article.

Putting the same information on mutilple sites by the same person has to be seen by G as trying to game the system.

make the article unique before every submission. All it takes is the click of a button nowadays, so there's no reason not to. If you just submit the same article again and again and again, you will be wasting your time

Because it won;t help you rank for anything.

IMHO, if the article is original in your site, you can submit it to many article directories.

how does google know that you submitted the article to article directories? if google was to penalize for duplicate article submission, then it would be so easy for evil competitors just to submit the same article to article directories and get their competitors penalized. it just doesn't work that way. you cannot get penalized for duplicate content on 3rd party sites. how much value submitting the same article to multiple article directories offer is another question, but there is NO penalty. besides, there are other search engines beside google (yahoo, msn live) which are not too hyped on duplicate content policy that much yet

I posted this on another forum

The best advice I can offer

Add articles to your own website, why give strength to another sites

Have a corporate Twitter account set up and feed your articles to it via RSS

Add the articles to digg, delicious

Never copy from another source, be totally unique

Try and implement the articles in a search engine friendly manner, getting this right is slightly complicated

Do not kick the arse out of self promotion, it reads poorly, try and capture the imagination of your readers

Have a visible link to your articles, preferably on your homepage
If your article are targeting set keywords, be careful how you implement them, keyword density is important

If you are going to use anchor text, do so sparingly

    Write often, preferably daily

You can use good quality articles in mailing lists/newsletters before adding them to your site

To improve visibility you could send out an article link via ping.fm

Try and pitch the article to your target audience, by this I mean if you are trying to capture the imagination of solicitors, the article would need to be presented in a different manner to say teenagers.

If you cannot add articles to your own site, you need to decide if you are using them for search engine benefit or exposure. If the former only add your article to one website, Ezine is ok, the latter distribute everywhere you can, including free press release channels

    Hope this helps

Submitting the same article to numerous sources, in the hope it will bring loads of backlinks, is not recommended.

After the initial submission you may see numerous links displayed by Google, that said you cannot be sure they count, Google admit they even index certain 'no-follow' links. After a period of time the article links will disappearing.

The days of basing a link building campaign on distributing articles to thousands of online sources are well behind us.

I just wish SEO was that easy it would make my life easier

submitting the same article on multiple directories may not be good for backlinks but that's really good for website traffic.
