The Directories forum is full of spam and misplaced threads. Please make it stop.

I just rep repped about 8 threads that were solicitations threads that were posted here instead. More members should do the same thing. At least half the threads on the first page of the Directories forum is "submit to my new dir" or "I just found this dir" or other similar crap.

It's time to put the smackdown on this crap. Report the posts, red rep the offenders, leave dirty messages for them on Instant Messenger (I usually something along the lines of "your mother smell funny").

 

I have report several threads the past 3 months,i have to admit that i didnt take more measures like some that u suggest
but i think is moderators job to clean up this section....

 

I guess Mod should take strong action. Like infraction point.

I was banned a week ago in link sale forum due to bumping thread - In fact I was trying to add more new info to my thread. (it was still bump anyway).

The Mod there is pretty tough.

 

I have been reporting these threads for months but the users aren't getting enough infractions imo as its getting worse

We can do nothing, report threads is useless IMO.

 

We need a mod like that here...we need to see infractions and/or temp bans.

 

The one thing you did not mention which could also be done is to let the posts die - quit posting in the spam/misplaced threads or threads where there are three threads similar floating on the same page all asking if yahoo is worth it.

Just let them fall off the page as unwanted, un-needed spam.

I do report misplaced threads to this section but im cautious about doing it too much never know if a mod could get annoyed with all the reports and think their being given extra work.

 

Even if we don't do that some one or the other does it..so infact it gets bumped

Mods need to be strict i guess. Make aaron_nimocks the mod here he is very strict

 

Not true, I report misplaced threads daily and they do get removed eventually. I'm in with EQ to start red-repping also when appropriate. The mods should be more pro-active and not wait for reports.

Also directory lists should be moved to S&A when they're an announcement not when they're a useful reply.

 

Best idea but it doesn't work, newbs will answer anyway and bump it.

 

True. The misplaced solicitation threads have become so prevalent that it seems people actually look through this forum looking for them now.

I'm spending less time here, because the signal-to-noise ratio has got so much worse lately. But where have all the smart posters gone? Not that there aren't still a few left, but there's clearly been an exodus.
