I think I got scammed

It's stupid, I'm ashamed to tell it. But it's OK, it's a lesson to learn.

I was parking my car in the front of the market and I saw this one guy, he was standing by the window of a lady's car and having a conversation with her. He then walked to my window and tell me:
he lives in Lincoln (a town, about 60 miles away from the city where I live), he told me he is on a trip and back to Lincoln, but he is out of gas. He does not has any cash with him (I did not think much about it, how stupid) so he asked me if I can help him $20 and he will pay it back.
I knew he will not pay me back. He doesn't look like a gentlemen, and will not keep his promises. The only reason I give him $20 is because I thought the lady he was talking to is his wife, she looked confusing, so I believed everything he said.

The guy got my $20 and drove his car away. The lady wasn't in the car with him.

I later realized the lady he was talking to isn't his wife. She is smarter than me. She refused to help him so he walked to me.

I even give him my number when he asked for it. If he gonna call me back then it's nice. I have two options: 1. Not to answer the phone, 2. tell him to donates that $20 to the church.

When you help a person, you don't call it back. But this is a scam, I don't feel good about it. Will see if he calls me.

yeah agreed, this is not so called scam. You should feel good as you helped someone[you know it very well].
you should even forget about it.
    Donate and Forget.
If you donate something, just forget about that after 1 second ;)

    There is a belief:
If you are having an intention to do something bad but you could not even then you get punishment because you thought about it. If you are having an intention to do something good but you could not do that even then you get a reward.

You helped someone being bonafide. Don;t think that you are scammed!
You will certainly get reward for it.

If he lied to you, then it's only $20. If he told you the truth, then you did a great job. Just think of the positive side. More $20 will come back to you because you helped someone in need.

I thought that this was a post about online scamming. Well it's $20 and that man according to you will probably not return the money. But I hope he does and you do not get scammed. Let us see whether he will call or not.

    Hi
I agree with everyone else, you have a good heart, I would have said no, not because Im mean but I wouldnt have had £20 to give someone. If he was a trickster someone will pay him back eventually, I believe in Karma too.
