We stayed at an Islamic hotel for about a month recently.

There was no bacon and no pork of any kind. They had beef bacon and turkey bacon. I can't describe to you how nasty those are.

    But strangely...

There was also free beer in the minibar.

    Go figure?

Bah, you yankees don't have real beer! :D

Once on a night out I thought I'd try some "Budweiser", it tasted like fermented potatoes. Seriously, is this what you lot over the pond are used to? :D

Caffrey's is pretty good, but what other really drinkable beers do you have on that tiny little island? :p

No wonder you smoke dope.

You've obviously never been here mate!

I'll generalise with the UK (seeing as the Irish have the best cider in the world :p). We have lager from all around the world, from Australia ('Fosters' for example) to Western Europe ('Becks', 'Grolsch', 'Kronenbourg', 'Stella Artois' and 'Carlsberg' to name a few) although I hate lager. England itself is better known for its home-grown Ale and Stout - proper drinks, none of this nancy trendy-boy larger :p

Although I would rather have a small joint than drink - it's much more fun and less bad for you :)

I will have to chime in, Brum. My wife and I once had dinner with the late Michael Jackson (the writer on all things malt - beer and scotch - not the erstwhile "King of Pop.") at the White Horse Inn, London (best draft Bass in the city, in my opinion). Lots of things discussed, but the one that stuck in my craw was his comment, "you lot are the brewers these days. English brewing is dead."

My jaw dropped. I never quite pinned him on what he meant, but I think what he was saying was that English brewing had undergone a tremendous transformation from its heyday - consolidation had had its effect, lager consumption from global houses was indeed on the rise (as you note), and the sense of experiment and adventure had really waned; the really bold forays into brewing were coming from the States, in the American craft beer movement.

I personally love English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish ales (stout is an ale, as is porter, by the way). But please do not equate "Budweiser" with "American" brewing. At last count (2007), there were over 1400 regional craft breweries producing top-notch beer in the U.S. You know, stuff like...

    :D

(Made with English malt, by the way - 100% Maris Otter, floor-turned malt; 5 different hop additions - including a massive charge of dry hops in secondary fermentation: Centennial and First Gold).

Seems Muslims worldwide are using the Swine flu as an excuse to justify the needless slaughter of helpless little piggies. What a bunch of morons...

    What would Charlotte do? WWCD

Are you under the illusion that the pig meat which arrives on your plate, Mia, did not come from a slaughtered Pig?

I'd usually brag about being Vegetarian... but I stopped being so a few weeks ago.

Nothing, unfortunately, but I've been looking around for some green. Seems no-one's selling :(

You said that the Muslims are using the Swine Flu problem to justify the slaughter of pigs. I thought this implied you think slaughtering pigs is wrong, or that Flu isn't proper justification, yet for food is.

    s'all.

I said what I said because I'm right.

Not only are they using this as an excuse to justify their backwards religion of hate, but several isalmac web sites have released statements like:

"the swine flu is God's way of revenge against the infidels".

Besides, they've practiced this mass genocide before. Aside from killing some 25 million birds during the "bird flu" pandemic, several in the islamoronic world have flat our banned pigs. High on the list:
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE and Libya.

Now I admit, they are not alone. Many Jews feel the same way about that tasty bacon/ham. But I've yet to see Jews mass murdering helpless creatures in order to "punish infidels".

In all fairness not every islamo nutjob is completely fruity. Some of them likely enjoy hoggin' once and a while.

Heck, I lived in London when I was doing ISP design for BT.

The Fosters that is sold in the U.S. is manufactured in Canada. Check your next Fosters and see where it was born.

It would a lot safer if it was legalized. Then it would be cheaper and easier to find, which would make it more sensible to cook with. People don't make pot brownies any more because it's a less efficient method of intake, but they are a lot healthier than inhaling smoke.

w00 h00! Welcome back to the top o' the food chain! :D

OK Mia I agree. Their statement about infidels is just... gay. They need to get a new catch-phrase :p It's a horrendous waste too. They could at least do something with the left over carcases.

Hey Will, you speak of the leaf like you have some experience ;) hehe.

I agree about the smoke, but that's why I bong it at least. I'd like to get a vape. That'd be awesome :D I don't know whether I'd try pot-food because it takes so long to come up and the high lasts way too long.

It's nice to see some conservative people speak kindly of Mary Jane. I don't see that often, which is sad.

You know that "gay" thing is no PC anymore... ;)

Here's a fine example of why so many do not like Islam: http://www.theblogofrecord.com/tag/sheikh-issa-video/

One thing people fail to realize is the people on this forum that are labeled Right Wing, or Republican, or NEOcon, are actually "Conservatives". You'll find that "Conservative's" traditionally are socially liberal.

I hear all this crap about the GOP wanting to "re-invent" itself, or "re-brand" itself. I don't want that. I want the group to get rid of the morons that want to "re-brand", and instead go back to what the party is supposed to be, "conservative". Conservatives want government to stay out of our way, this includes our personal and business life. What we do in our own homes hurts no one. What we do in our businesses helps everyone.

The more government interferes with my life, the less I produce, and the more paranoid I become.

As a Conservative I want government to get out of my way. I support my government, not the other way around.

Budweiser is a fair beer considering it's past. The idea was to beer a fresh clean product that could be shipped via rail in the early days of the industrial revolution before canning and refrigiration. Michelob is a good product brewed in the European lager style.

Usually I stay away from Becks because it isn't so fresh. Though I've had good luck with the 22oz bottles. They move well in the hood.

Since 1829, D.G. Yuengling brewed in Pottsville, Pennsylvania since 1829 has a good amber lager and sells for the price of Bud. Presidente (Dominican Republic) and Heinekein are widely available and fresh.

What I don't understand is that a religion that allows marriage to 8 year olds and people that smoke and grow opium feel that they have a god given right to prohibit me from eating a ham on rye with a cold beer?
