1. I am not sure PR equals authority, because I know some sites with few high PR backlinks got to PR6, even 7. Or in general, is that so, so say, there are similar content pages, will high PR sites page rank better in SERP? 2. How many high PR sites out there? PR 7 sites, 10K, that is a lot. As I heard it is logarithmic, so I think there are 10 PR10 sites out there, there will be 100 PR 9, 1000 PR 8, 10,000 PR7 sites out there? So if all these sites rank well on SERP, that is top 10K sites already, pretty authoritative, right? 3. What you think of PR 6 site? There should be about 100K sites out there... if estimate right.. So what they really compete is on number/quality of links or on-page SEO? As I see some search query really bring similar content web pages..
Yes you are right ... Authority site does not require High PR ... Actually Authority sites are Google trusted sites. But yeah it do have some standards. if you follow them and if you are lucky enough then your site will be an Authority site of Google. here is an example for PR is not Equal to Authority www.skans.edu.pk. go to Google.com and search type the url in search bar. The site's PR is 2 but is still an Authority site.
