Hi all - Im trying to figure out what I should do about some hosting.

I plan on hosting about 40 domains. - I would like about 10 static IP's - No video or music.... Mainly these are Directories, blogs and small static sites.

Before you go pitching me with your hosting plans and "PICK ME's". Im looking for mainstream hosting with fantastico, etc.. Out of the top 10 most popular... which one would support this, what plan would you suggest? What do you think it would cost. If any webmasters have something simular - Please chirp in on the thread.

I was thinking Host Gator. --

You need VPS. That would be cost you $20 and more depends on the configuration.
As for the shared web host - that might be a problem to have all stuff hosted on one account

I wouldn't jump into conclusions about needing a VPS or shared just yet. What are your needs in terms of storage/bandwidth? Seeing as you said you have small static sites, I'm assuming most of your sites don't use much for resources, correct me if I'm wrong. If going with shared, you'd obviously need a host with unlimited domains.

As for the IP's, you'd most likely have to purchase these at an extra rate alongside your hosting plan.

Also, about the whole top 10 thing, those are all biased/affiliate based and there is no real top 10 list, with most of them being oversellers meaning running that many domains might net you some problems. I'd just find a host that meets your requirements, without overselling, by asking their support the same questions you're asking here!

Im going to say 300-550 MB of disk space and a little under a GIG for bandwidth per site. Anyone help with maybe some estimating? Speed and reliable is what Im looking for. Space could be less. Lots of 2 Pagers which are nothing in size.

I'd go for a reseller account if I were you, you have a lot more flexibility. You could make a seperate cpanel account for each domain but still go to cpanel via whm for any account. If you happen to sell one then you can include the hosting (for a greater sale price) and not have to re-arrange all your other domains.

WHM is not hard to use, there's a demo on cpanels own website - whm demo - and the cost won't be any more than the big name cpanel hosting providors. Word of caution tho' be VERY careful about buying from DP 'offers' if you want reliability, some are ok but you only have to look at the threads for the problems people have with those, they're alright for a practice tho' :)

Space and bandwidth are important but don't go for unlimited/umetered if you can help it, there's NO SUCH THING! I know that you can buy that but just try using it. You won't need much anyway I don't think, 10 GB space and 100 GB B/W will be more than enough to start with, and affordable. You can upgrade later if needed, just get a feel for it first.

Take the plunge - be a proper webmaster :D

Go for reseller hosting if some of your domains are your customers domains. Take a premium hosting plan and load these domains. More than 40 domains what is important is how much of resource you need. 40 of your domains can be very well managed within a premium plan from Any or top hosting provider.

Do not go by the name top. They gonna treat you just like 140000 other customer domains. do research on who can serve your purpose.

    PM sent!

I would say, try a VPS. If you are going to host 40 domains then please avoid from shared hosting or any unmetered/unlimited reseller. A good Virtual Private Server can really help you in these circumstances.

don't jump to a vps and waste so much money - since you seem to have low-end websites (meaning low maintenance and low server load websites) then you can get away with a cheap reseller package. get one that allows at least 40 different accounts and get one that can assign dedicated IPs to your account for your use. shouldn't be that hard to find. and it would cost you let's say $30/month for a reliable service with a good amount of space and bandwidth

Fantastico is alright but over the years it has proven to be weak in terms of security - it updates scripts pretty slowly putting all the installed scripts at risk of getting compromised.

Installatron is much better if you are looking into quick script installation. They update very quickly thus making it safer from that point. and Installatron has more scripts as well.

Good luck finding something :) And as some said, avoid unmetered and unlimited accounts, they are nothing but BS and they will make you pay with your sites later on including host gator. Also avoid offers that look too good to be true, like 10 dedicated IPs with a 100gb space for $5/mo

I think VPS would be better choice at the most especially when you're going to load 40 plus domain names because you'll need more resources and flexibility.

Those 10 ips will add up... Probably be half of your monthly cost. What is your budget?

With a decent reseller hosting account you can be in that price range per month. You have to figure that each IP address will be around $2/month so that will leave you with $15-20/month for the regular hosting costs.

You may look for shared hosts who might get your site hosted for about 5-6$ with addon domains (I dont think so that any huge hosting company would take an objection, But for security reasons go for multiple accounts for better security)

As the resources you are using isnt that much, you would possibly fit into a decent plan and wont have problems with anything what so ever.

If you take the hosting cost into account, it would cost about 5-10$/mo for all the 40 domains on an average but not totally true on private hosting companies which dont allow that many addons, although there are some who have a higher plan and you dont need to upgrade until you run out of the resources provided.

I think i didnt make it that clear, although if its a problem in understanding it well. I will explain you further. ;)
