Even Islam enslaves people. You cannot kill a person that leaves your belief, maybe he found truth in satanism for example. It is not logical, and this remembers me that Allah and the xtian God are pretty much the same thing, as both of them are offensive to the people that go away from them.

well i have already mentioned that there is a reason behind every order. :)

Its the same thing that you like a girl..you marry her and then after some days you start liking someone else..you leave the first one and then marry the 2nd one and then this thing goes on and on...
    :)

It was a political decision. When the religion of Islam was first introduced in Arabia, they faced a lot of hostility. The followers were persecuted and many were killed. Later on, there were many wars between the Pagans and the new converts to Islam.

These were wars for survival. During one such conflict, some influential leaders, recent converts to Islam betrayed their fellow brothers and changed sides. Many Muslims lost their lives as a result of this betrayal.

So, it was decreed that you cannot betray your brothers once you're a part of the family.

No ALLAH dont allow any murder unless there is a valid reason for it..

Islam says the murder of one human is like the murder of whole humanity...So how can this religion orders you to go and start killing people.

But there are some things that need to be punished so when needed..there is an order to kill those who deserve :)

@gauharjk: one should know, otherwise he would commit a BIG sin.
@seoz: this punishment seems way too severe.

It depend on the SIN you have done...

If you kill someone and you prove guilty then the punishment is to kill you..unless the the person's family whom you have killed forgive you...

now you can see the beauty of this judgment here..ISLAM gives Victim the power to decide what will happen to the culprit..

Didn't find it in the Quran. It was a decision made later on... IMO

So, there is a little mismatch in what is perceived and what actually is...

You have said plenty. Thank you.

What gives you or Allah or Islam the right to tell any man what God he may or may not pray to?

I find your view of Sharia and Islam as oppressive and violent and weak. It is no surprise that a religion which must keep its members loyalty under threat of death also coerces woman's compliance with threats of beatings or violence.

How can I respect an ideology so weak that it needs needs to threaten its own members with death for daring not to believe? It is sad that Islam is so threatened by free thought.

so if it is not in Quran then it is not from god. and if it is not from god then it is from man and if it is from man then it is suspect and it could be wrong.
i think brown is correct that this law is prohibitive and it is more than likely made to protect some men in some time long ago. then it should be removed and nullified for this reason .
i do not think you can belive in god and judgment day and take it upon yourself to judge any man's relashionship with god. That is the point of the judgment day. i think this is the real cause of a lot of problems and it is done by all three religions. if i am not wrong it is also prohibitesd both in islam and judaisim.
how about killing gay people. is this in quran

God cannot dictate everything. Rules of Civil society were created by man, not by God. Sharia is a law for men, by men.

laws of men for men are just laws not religion. they can be wrong and can be changed. once it is shown that a law is unjust it needs to be changed. time to change some of these laws

Sharia laws are actually a set of laws based on 4 things...

    1. Quran - The Holy Book of God
    2. Hadith - Traditions and deeds of the Prophet
    3. Ijma - Consensus of the people
    4. Qiyas - Logical reasoning

So, if there is consensus of the people to change certain laws, or common sense or logic says a law should be changed, then it will be changed...

Bu unfortunately, there is no authority that can dare touch it. There is no central authority, like a Pope... in Islam... So, it remains just as it was 1500 years ago...

the first step would be to stop defending it like it is the holy book. It is not.
and maybe criticize it here and there when it is justified.
eventually it will change. i do not think any religious leader will ever change the religious laws that gives him his power. people should force them to change it little by little.
it is crazy to live by laws that are written 100s of years ago by men.

Well... thats how the world works...

There is no chance Sharia laws could ever change. Who has the authority? Muslims are such a diverse group of people, coming from different races, different ethnic backgrounds, different languages, different cultures... it is impossible to have a single leader.

Today, less than 5% of Muslims live under laws based on the original Sharia laws. So, it is not a problem. When some crazies like the Taliban come into the limelight, they defile the Islamic value system by claiming to represent it.

Taliban's laws are NOT Sharia laws.

untill the muslems defend it there would be no change. once they stop, there will be. it has happened before. it might even take some times or maybe a generation but why not let your children moveon from something that is probaby wrong. why does it have to exist anyway? isn't quran enough? why does it have to be the same all over the world? different people need different laws to deal with different problems.

    I agree with you...

    But a One-world government must have a One-world constitution... :p

I believe that change will come... If people want change, then they'll get it...

@gauharjk I request that you don't take such apologetic approach

Muslims don't own Quran, it is owned by Allah, even if all the Muslims agree on it there can be no change (Allah Forbid) in Quran

    Quran says

We, Ourselves, have sent down the Dhikr (the Qur’ān), and We are there to protect it.
No one can change it (6:34, 18:27, 10:64). It is complete (6:115). Nothing essential has been left out of it (6:38, 6:59, 10:61, 34:3).
