Can a dotCom Beat a dotINFO or dotCO.UK in SEO?

    Hi all...

I am wondering if domain name extentions have any bearings on SE rankings? Assuming everything else are the same, will a .com trump .info or .co.uk in the search engines?

I think it doesn't matter what is the extension of the domain. More important thing in SE ranking is how old the domain is.

The TLD has very little influence on the SERP of a site. Most search engines determine language of a website from its content, and I have heard that they only use TLD for the language if they can't determine which language it is from the content.

I agree. The TLD shouldn't have any significant bearing on your rankings.

    Hey pretty good question!

From my experience it depends on the traffic and keyword of course but lets say in the case that the .com and .info are equally marketed then the .com will be on top but the .info will be right there as well.

People get the .com because of the popularity and recognition but .info are not too bad either and cheaper of course :)

It doesn't matter as long as those domains have nice contents.

ok... I think generally the SEs will not punish the domain with a lesser TLD.

In other words, say a country ccTLD such as dotCOM.AU has slightly better SEO done and better content than the dotCOM, then it should logically rank higher.

I hope this is true... any SEO gurus here to verify? :)

Domain extensions only matter when it comes to Localized SE ranking. For example: if you want your site to target UK, then a .uk extension will help.

Otherwise, all domain extensions are the same in SEs eyes.

And if consider the domain name value, then yes, .com names have higher value for sure.

I think domain extension doesn't matter in SEO as long as you have good content!
