Advice needed regarding blogging (I'm a newbie)

Hi everyone, I was interested in getting involved in blogging but I wanted to get a few questions out of the way.

    1. How profitable is blogging? What sort of revenue can one expect and what are the best methods of advertising (adsense etc)?

    2. What blogging sites come most recommended? Is wordpress a good starting point?

    3. Key terms - I've read a lot of terms floating around like SEO and PR, could someone define these for me please?

I read another post on traffic tips that was really helpful, at the moment I just want to understand how much investment of time to how much return I would be looking at, and any tips for newcomers.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks! :D

    1) a blog is just as profitable as a website, a lot will depend on how much effort you are willing to put in.

    2) if you cant afford to host your own blog wordpress.com would be a good starting point, else, try the self-hosted version at wordpress.org

    3) each would take too long to explain (just do a search on either), SEO stands for search engine optimisation and PR stands for press release

Great, cheers teens. I think I'll start with a free blog to experiment then move up to self hosting once I get the hang of things. I'll run a few searches for the definitions, cheers! :D

    3. its worth reading about seo yourself to get a real understanding.

Blog can give you a good revenue from affiliate marketing and even from adsense, but it totally depends on how successful your blog will be.

Wordpress is the best CMS for blogs IMO, go for it :)

It depends on whether you are blogging for money or other purpose, such as reputation and promoting yourself. If you are new and looking for a free blogging platform, you can use blogger, or if you are serious about blogging and ready to invest some money for the start, I would recommend self-hosted wordpress.

Self-hosted Wordpress is the tops imho. I have tried other options and it beats the lot.

The key to successful blogging is blogging about something you LOVE and blogging about it consistently. How frequently you update will be noticed. Advertising with similarly-themed sites will help a lot.

But the most important thing is being consistent. If you go in with the mindset of doing something you love versus being profitable, you'll win, because profit is a bonus at that point.
