Most of my domains are registered through godaddy.com When you register a domain name you have the option to hide your details. (Called DomainByProxy.com) What are the cons in using this feature? If someone else does the same and links to me, does google think those two sites have the same owner since all the details will be the same except for the Administrative Email and the Technical Email?
Nope, all it does is conceal the information the was associated with registering the domain. Google wont look at this, as it has nothing to with the content of the website, but rather just the information that is associated with the domain.
Yes, but Google now factors in information from the WHOIS pages based upon their newest algoriteim. To answer the original question, I don't think it has any negative effect, as some of the largest sites on the internet use whois privacy. It is becoming more and more necessary to buy it, especially with a big site, when you are just opening up yourself to get spammed. From a couple of articles I read, the main thing they factor from the WHOIS, is how long the domain has been registered, but not the owner's information. Tom
This would make the most sense, for sure. I think it would be pretty shady to actually base information of the the ownership. The time frame does make sense though.
