Help me test a new site

I have created a new website that is similar to digg but for photographs. The idea is to post your best photo and have people vote on the ones they like best so these get promoted to the front page of the site.

    http://www.photozook.com

This is just a beta, so some features are not yet implemented but we want to make sure the photo upload, voting and comment system works as expected before we start with the more advanced features.

If you wouldn't mind helping me out, I would greatly appreciate it. If you find anything not working or just have comments (good or bad), please post them here.

    Thank you.

Not sure what you mean by all over the place, but thanks for commenting.

    The search has been fixed...

I've seen this same digg like template all over the place, I would change the styling but overall I like the idea.

    Good luck!

The look and feel is being changed this week, that is the default template. I am more concerned about the idea/concept and the functionality since this is a modified version of the software.

    Thank you for your comments.

Nice photos there! Is there any size and format restrictions for posting photos. On home page all those photographs posted by admin are of same size.

Yes, the limit is 1000X1000 which is then automatically downsized to about 600X400.

Definately change the look, but the functionality is good. This looks like a Mollio template, can I ask where you got it from?

I really like the size of the pictures too, they're big enough to make them the focus of the page. One thought is maybe linking the title of each image to the repsective comment page.

Otherwise, great work, and good luck!

Thank you! Yes it is a Mollio template. It is standard with the software that runs the backend.

Thanks for the comments and the suggestion, great idea.

You should change the look and limit the photo size on your home page to reduce loading time. Hope this helps.

I think having so many large images on your front page is a bad idea: when I used to be on dial up I used to get so annoyed when there were so many huge images on a webpage.

I'm agreeing with shamess downsizing them photos would be better IMO. It's just... too much, all these photos take the attention off of what you want happening... voting, clicking, etc.

If you could figure it out, have smaller thumbnails, but when the mouse goes over the thumbnail it enlarges it? And a click would open a new window with the right sized or a larger scaled image with all the voting and everything within that window too. Would work nicely I think, and allow you to have more images on your front page, and more room for other features.

Have the front page cycle through several photos. It will give the illusion that the site is alive.

    Your site looks nice.

But I think a smaller sized thumnailed image leading to the corresponding bigger picture will give a better look for the site. Also it will give you more space for pics on main page. You could also add short description with each photograph to get surfers attention as well as search engine food.

I can't see any "vote" buttons ... the ubiquitous system as seen on http://www.hotornot.com/ and thousands of similar sites is noticably missing! So how can people vote?

    Regards
