Hi... I want to take backup of the huge data in my current HDD I am using to somewhere else .....those are very important files ( including a lot softwares + tutorials + ...... ) I want to know which is the best media to keep as a backup .... .the files may be about 100-150 GB...... and will become more... So DVDs are almost impossible... many told to buy a 250GB portable HDD.. I want to know are they worth buying ? I mean i want 1) good transfer speed and 2) should last long so if portable HDDs will satisfy my needs, tell me which brand is the best and reliable.... thanks...
get urself a LACIE portable hard disk drive and buy 320 gb one because there is not much price difference between 250 and 320 cheers
@ Feizar Thanks ..... but will they last long and has a good transfer speed ??? also I didnt hear about this brand..I am familiar with SEAGATE and WESTERN DIGITAL..
this brand is from the uk i think, seagate is also good, look up on ebay they have got very nice deals for portable hard disks and they come with one year warranty i think, if u use them properly then u wont have any problem, mate cheers
seagate and western digital are more popular here... seagate comes with 5 years warranty... and yeah...do you think a portable HDD can fulfill my needs ?? I want the data to be secure and last long thanks
I think a portable HDD will fill your needs, I have used them in the past to back up videos, photographs and other irretrievable data. Just don't buy on the cheap, that would be my best advice. Also, I bought one which didn't have a power switch and I wouldn't want it on all the time, so I would recommend buying one with a built in switch. The other major options I am aware of would be an internal HDD, a tape drive (rediculously expensive, slow and not applicable to your needs), large flash memory (like in ipods, expensive, yet arguably more reliable). Personally, I'd say the external harddrive is the obvious choice. If you have an eSata port, this is optimal as an external hard disk would run as fast as the internal one, otherwise USB2 and firewire are both acceptable options. (Make sure you check which ports the drive requires and if you have them) The internal hard disk drive might have a bit more reliability in the long term (you can't drop an internal hard drive when it's in the computer) but if you're careful with an external hard drive, and it's a reputable brand, you should be fine. If you have any questions just ask, best of luck, Plight
