I agree with you 200%. I have been observing the same.

And yes good news is that it ha got no relation with SERP.

By the way I have been wondering why people run after PR ;)

    I never ran though :)

I think it is good to have higher PR, all else equal.

Really? Your site is the first I have heard of that has had an existing PR altered upwards.

Its link:www.yoursite.com (no space after link:)

Hay previously I had 32 pages with PR4. This time PR4 pages went down to 17. And 1 page went up to PR5. However, the index page, which previously had PR3, went down to PR1.

I have a site that was (perhaps wrongly?) given PR3 earlier in the year in the 'broken PR update', when it was a very new site. It has now changed to what is probably correctly a PR4.

Hence a situation where a site with existing PR has increase its PR.

wow! what a pleasant suprise coming back from vacation!!! :D my new site went from PR0 to PR4 :D. another site went from 0 to 2, but i havn't promoted it much yet.

my older sites did not change at all which is dissapointing but oh well. they have pr 4's and 5's so Im not too concerned. They never seems to change in PR, and havn't in the past 3 years.

Quite the contrary, I've had solid gains of +1/+2 across the board (and some great numbers on particular subpages) ;)

I rail against PR so much because I believe that a lot of wasted effort and time goes into raising it when it's quite useless.

I also hate explaining to people that I can get them to rank well, but I can't give them PR10 like they want.

PR doesn't help rankings for specific keywords...it might help you if you're trying to sell links.

PR is one of 2 chaseable metrics.
And it is a status symbol.

    Chase away I say.

I would agree that PR is overated, but you can't say it is completly unimportant

can you give me an example of a pr 0 site that ranks well in google for a high competitve key word??
