Check this thread and post no. 20 in it : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=5458 A 597 days old thread is bumped in the introduction section. Now a member no. 32252 is welcoming member no. 2444 This is disgusting. Now this type of suggestions were always rejected This live example is not a bad one Atleast 100 Days old threads in Introduction should be closed. Anyways just a suggestion Hope this brings some effect. Chetan.
And how about... Adding to that, peon's won't be able to post at the Introduction section except in their own thread? And apply the same rules as B/S/T forums...? Like that for sure it will avoid lots of "hi welcome" and moderators jobs for deleting peon post counts.
I guess there is a setting (or hack) that closes automatically the threads in vBulletin when they are XXX days old. Perhaps what DP needs in some forum sections
I like that one better, and should be easier to implement because essentially it's the same as the requirement to post in the Buy Sell Trade section. I've seen (and deleted) many newbies running up their post count in the introduction section pasting "Welcome, I'm new here too." in every thread. When you go to a party at someone's house, it's normally not another guest who welcome's you and shows you around the place so in that regard, it doesn't even make sense they can welcome other n00bs.
Except they should be able to start a thread and just not be able to reply to a thread...unless they started the thread, so they can reply in there own thread. That part isn't as easy to do. or even better...posts shouldn't count in the post count there, but Shawn won't do that cause it's way too easy to do and doesn't even need a hack!!!!
I like this idea too. I would suggest a person below 100 posts should not be allowed to post in introductions forum except his own thread.
Yeah, forgot about that Good point. If you just don't count the posts it's still trash on the forum so IMO that's not a solution.
See my second sentence in the post above (reading comprehension ). Not counting it doesn't mean it's not there anymore. They don't benefit from it anymore but I know for fact they'lls till do it, because they don't read the Rules and FAQ in the first place so how would they know it doesn't count?
Well, see I don't see the harm in people posting things like, "Welcome, welcome!" However when it grants them access to the BST forums, it's counterproductive. But the messages themselves dont' bother me. Kinda like how rep is useless in general chat Does that make sense? Not sure if it does
Just don't read them I guess, but it is annoying when it spams new posts... I dunno, maybe put a limit on how many different threads you can post in? Ex: New member can reply on his own thread and can only post on 2 other threads per day/whatever.
Give points for each message, 1 point for normal messages, 0.1 or 0.05 for each welcome message. A low enough number so that they're not motivated to spam the section.
I think deleting the Introduction forum would be dandy as a whole... We could have members introduce themselves with a nice quality post.
