.Tel is really an innovative idea with it’s simplicity without need a website and web host, you do not need any knowledge of website and web programming like HTML/ASP/PHP etc. In terms of simplicity, I think even my grandma can set it up. But if .tel can be successful, there are still many question marks. Although it has structural data which is good for Search engine, but this is no way to make it “Rich In Contentsâ€. If a domain (website) can do well, another important factor is the “Agingâ€, .Tel just came out, there is no way to compete with thousands of aged sites. So you need to expose your site on internet as much as possible, like put your .tel to showcase of this forum, another way is list your site on many directories. The http://www.dotteldirectory.net/ is a directory which only allow .TEL domains to be listed and list you domain for free.
One good thing about .tel is that it isn't yet another repurposed .ccTLD. I think there will be confusion arising between .tel and .mobi, though, so this may be a problem.
Yes, there is confusion of .tel and .mobi. but even though .mobi is also good for mobile devices, but like other extensions, .mobi need a website/webhost, even you do not need to do too much complicated coding for a a simple site, but this is still a big challenge for many normal peoples. But .tel, without needing a website/host, it is much much easier to set it up.
.tel does make some sense for business with trademark only, but it doesnt make much sense for individuals, there are thousands of johns and jerrys, 2nd an average uni guy wouldnt like to pay even $10 year and stay committed for paying it every year, he has msn, facebook and alot more to get in touch. 3rd If i was tom cruise I would especially stay out of it as I wouldnt want anyway to see my number n stuff. 4th for example Pizza.tel, there are thousands of pizza businesses in the world and only one would get to have it. 5th most of the people in most part of the world still dont use internet on their cell phones.
As far as I can see there are only 2 ways to monetize the domain which is really just a directory listing with no ads. The tel domains can have subdomains and drill down lists 1) direct traffic to your revenue generating or affiliate sites or 2) sell subdomains or listings a) dominos.pizza.tel, BobsCornerPizza.pizza.tel, xxxx.restaurants.tel... b) on restaurants.tel have different pages & sell links - a Toronto>Pizza list, Toronto>Burger list... c) alumni lists, association members list, job seekers list, consultant lists...
Is there a possibility that Telnic may develop some kind application in the future like Google adsense, So .tel publishers can monetizing their .tels?
lesbian.tel is sold on sedo for USD1000. I think this is an encouraging news for all .tel lovers or .tel domain holders. This means many people are interested in .TEL domains and more and more people will do as the applications for .tel are developed.
I got some *very* interesting dottel domains during the landrush period (generic names, not proprietary names). Right now I'm exploiting them as indicated by tobycoke, driving traffic to my site and providing subdomain entries. However. there seems to be some confusion about whether you can or cannot "sell" dottel subdomains, hence that I have circumvented the issue by providing the subdomain (for free) as part of another (high-paying) service. The real issue is however investment. IF .TEL lives up to its promise, and becomes THE directory for all kinds of mobile devices, the domains I have might be worth tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. But I guess it will take some time to take of, my best guess is 2-3 years...
Whoa eerie.. Here I just was buying one from name.com. I've spent some time looking into the what and why's. Like others have already said. it's been picked through as far as the surnames go. But dictionary words.. That's something else. \I picked up a LLLL.tel i think will do pretty well... I'd like to network with some of you a who are going to seriously be playing around with there's.
dot tels have no content. just links. how can they rank in Google? you have to hope for type-in traffic of traffic from other sites - not from search engines
It's meant for mobile devices. The SE's will see it as mobile content. There are options for text fields. However since it is geared for said mobile media. They don't give you much to work with. To me if i was to surf onto one of these sites on my desktop/laptop. I'd find it to be hideous and probably leave.. Today I've had the chance to view the site on a couple of different mobile devices. In a condensed form they look absolutely wonderful. If this takes off the way they want it to.. I can see this being the beginning of the end for business cards.. btw obey.tel
Some good example live .TEL sites : thehotel.tel Hotel information brighton.tel – Services directory for the town of Brighton, UK mesacc.tel – Mesa Community College in Arizona, USA bowser.tel – A .tel for a dog cancel.tel – Mobile-friendly service for cancelling credit cards nestle.tel – Nestlé company, well-structured corporate domain numbers.tel – Country codes and telephone listings doctorscave.tel – Doctors Cave Beach Hotel in Jamaica
I can think of some good names for .tel but I am wondering whether it is worth it. Somehow I feel that .mobi is more suited for mobile applications.
Its probably not going to be a great success. People are confused if .mobi should be .tel or the other way around. .Mobi is declining and there's almost 0 demands for them as prices of lll.mobi are worthless="0" There are no other way to monetize .tel. However I think they do have a use for companies that are transparent, but ofcourse, 99.9% companies do not disclose public information. They only do so when required. So who's buying into this? small businesses are the only ones I think. But that's also a slim chance. Again, companies are greedy people, they dont put anything in public, ie. Jobs are offered to people who they know. They do not put out their numbers or financial information to anyone, only when require to do so. .Tel is doom at this point.
Very good points. The mobile devices/smart phone users are dramatically increasing every year, it is very difficult to surf normal ordinary websites on mobile devices, because they are not mobile device friendly. But what is the major reasons for no demand on .mobi as mobile phone users are keep increasing?
Interesting Dottel Domain Business Card of "Hollywood Super Stars" Style 1: Brangelina Style 2: Brangelina Style 3: Brangelina Now , Do you still have any doubts that .tel will have a great success ? I have NO doubts about that.
Nope, it's gonna be a big flop IMO. You can't develop a proper site on this extention or park it. Another crappy extention that has been brought out.
just got my dottel! it's going to be a directory for my province. but i dont quite get how will search engines find it.. also how do you plan to monetize your dottel?
