I always thought one of the main improvements in the world of computing is that they're supposed to get quicker, surely that's a kind of paradox if the improvements make them slower?

Window's Vista pretty much destroyed Microsoft's reputation. I can't think of an operating system worse than it.

I have to agree with the few people who mentioned that ME was the worst. It was. It was not a move in the right direction for Microsoft. Why go from 98 to ME. Didnt make since. I installed it, and quickly went back.

Now 3.1 was not a bad OS, it might be considered back compared to what we have today. In its time it was the shiznit.

I personally love Vista, it is not a bad OS when you get used to it. Just took me a bit of time to understand it and let it grow on me.

It's not a paradox. The more services an operating system provides, the more resources it requires. Windows 95 used less resources than Windows 98; and we had the same problem when XP was released

I chose too laptop (a Sony TX770P) because it had the Vista logo and was pretty disappointed that it not only wouldn't run [Aero], but more important wouldn't run [Windows] Movie Maker. ... Now I have a $2,100 e-mail machine.

In my experiance it is Windows ME!

BTW - When XP came out it also forced some hardware upgrade. like having more RAM to work nicely!
I think, it is good to have a nice look in your workspace. So why not use some of the hardware to shape it up a bit.
But of course. step by step, i agree vista was one step to many.

Ubuntu is a nice elegant choice though. If it is free, you cannot blame them! But people tend to blame for everything to much.

    peace

I would like to know the reason why anyone would list windows 2000 as one of the worst operating systems ever made? And to include XP Pro?

Windows 2000 has been hailed as one of the best operating systems ever made. It can run smoothly on 256 megs of memory - something XP, vista and windows 7 can not do. Its secure, light weight, stable - and all without the bloat like what XP, Vista and windows 7 has.

Go do a google search for windows 2000 best operating system ever made and see how many results you get.

Windows 2000 supports dual processors, works on a windows Domain and a active directory network - unlike XP home.

The only thing XP pro has that windows 2000 does not, is remote desktop, but that can be fixed with something like VNC.

And, Windows 2000 was the first member of the NT family to support plug in play. NT 4 did not support plug in play, windows 2000 does.

For those of us that remember the "good ole days" before the bloat of Vista, its a toss up between Win2K and XP Pro as the best 2 OSs ever made.
