Wesite Content management system? what should I use?

I'm looking to start setting up a small website that I can use a content management system on to easily edit it's content and publish it without issue.

I run several VB forums but I am trying to help my parents get their business's website looking better.

I will be a simple site but I need something that even they can work with. Granted my father has been learning a lot but he in no way is great at HTML or does he even begin to look at PHP.

I need something that will give him an editor similar to that of say something in Vbulletin that he can edit pages of the site so that he can put up new items and such.

It doesn't need to be anything too complicated, but I'd like to find something for him.

please post if you know of something that I could get setup for them.

I suggest to you one word, and one word only... Wordpress perhaps.

    Another vote for WP here.

As far as the end user goes, I think WP has the simplest admin interface, and is friendly to use.

Wordpress isn't really a CMS, its more of a blog platform, if you want a CMS, go with drupal, or joomla, if you want a blog, go with wordpress.

What do they want to do exactly? Is it products for sale? can I see the site they have. If it's basic it's probably pretty easy. shoot me a pm and I'll take a look. I'm bored right now.

Worldpress is good for starters. Otherwise Joomla suits everything and anything,.

    the site is http://jllaser.net/
As you'll see it looks pretty bad. My father has been suing the yahoo site builder to get it all laid out and all.
I downloaded and installed Joomla on a test site and damn is it intensely complex. it's a bit crazy to get everything laid out how you want it and all.

I've been trying to find a skin for it that's free and product oriented in some manner. I've been working on filtering out all the extra stuff out of the test site. I think I'm going to try and get it running on my dads domain soon but I need to learn more about how to run the software. It's kind of straight forward but it's kind of hard to figure some of the finer things.

I don't like how it's a pain in the ass to setup the menus in the order that you want and so on.

Wordpress can be made to do just about anything. I have several directory sites that run off a custom/hacked Wordpress backend, and generally use Wordpress to create new 'static' sites for clients - simply because I can let them do the updates themselves, without giving them an admin account or ftp access.

Drupal and Joomla are monsters (imho).

Joomla is the best, find some matching template, use stylizer to edit CSS and match the template to your needs, add the required extensions, and you will be ready to go

i've been looking all over the place but have't been able to find anything close to what I need.

are there any sites that you may know of that would skins that I'm looking for. I've found a few but none with a free skin that would work for me. some of these places want like 50+ for a skin that has what I would like but damn I'm on a non existent budget!

Being that your parents are not advanced at this time when it comes to websites, start them off with Wordpress. It is very functional and easy to use. You really cannot go wrong with it. Joomla can be difficult for a newbie IMO.

It can be but that's were I come in. When I'm not working or in classes (just started on a new degree) I do have some time to get things setup for them. I've been working with it today and it's coming along nicely. I just need to upload the content that I have now along with the software to their site.

I do like the easy to use editors that you can use when you log into the main page instead of the admin area. They really do the trick for making things exceptionally easy. That's how I'll have them setup to work work on things. This way they can't accidentally do the complete wrong thing in the back end of the system.

I have noticed that Joomla is not a small install at all! 25 megs just for the install then you have to delete the massive install directory. but even on a dedicated server it took some time to upload all the files, at least 20 minutes. There are thousands of files!

My vote goes to Wordpress, it's an excellent backend and easy to update, install and tweak. Plus there's pretty much every single plugin you'll ever need for free, from SEO, Newsletters to Multiple User management.
