If I give away a free php form script, how can I embed a "link" back to my site for SEO value? I would want to distribute this script to similar (competing) websites, so I know they will not want an obvious "link" back to my site. So how can I go about this?
To get search engine love, you basically need to link from a relevant site, to a relevant site - so you are always going to have competition issues with the backlink in this case. If you try to do anything deceptive in masking the link, you are probably going to make the backlink less effective, as well as pissing off the search engines. My suggestion would be, just slap the backlink on there and walk away. It migh be worth taking a look at the coding for the Glype proxy script ( http://www.glype.com/ ), though. It will throw an error message if the required backlink is removed.
Great suggestion, I'll have to examine the Glype Code. I wouldn't want to do anything deceptive. I guess if my script is usefull enough, I can get away with just "slapping" my backlink there and they can deal with it Thanks for the suggestion......any one else......
Most likely if you are offering certain scripts for certain objectives like a for a link directory scripts, you will probably get back links from link directories and nothing else. You can basically target what backlinks you want to get from depending on your scripts, so you are more focused on a certain keyword in the search engine.
