NoFollow Links Maybe OK

I'm a big believer in "DoFollow" links - if there is a rel="[external] noFollow" in the code - then I don't bother leaving a backlink...until tonight.

I have an account with google.com/webmasters - tonight I was looking at some of the external links that I posted back a while on "noFollow" sites (at the time - I was just trying to get extra traffic - wasn't doing it for SEO reasons) and found that these sites with my sig linked back to my site.

Just wondering if anybody has seen a NF site (that they posted a backlink) link back to their site?

    This not new.

No Follow does not mean that search engines do not see the pages which No Follow attributed links point to. The link may sometime be listed in google webmaster or with the link:site.com operator.

No folllow means means that link does not give link value nor referral attribution. It does not pass any PR juice.

NoFollow links will show up in Google webmaster tools and Yahoo siteexplorer, that doesn't increase their value. But you shouldn't stay away from nofollow links. Any website that's getting links naturally will get both nofollow and dofollow links.

And just for the record, nofollow links might not pass PR, but they DEFINITELY boost the target page's SERP ranking if a) the link-donor page is good, and b) the link has good anchor text.

Case in point: links from Craigslist posts. Nofollow, but boy oh boy, do they boost SERP performance!

Very true - and, it never hurts to get links for the fact that they get PEOPLE to your site, and people not only purchase your products or services, but they also may link to you from their site.

I don't really care if the link is nofollow / dofollow, I'm not too fussed anymore, I remember when I spent hours only getting dofollow links and only got like 20 in a hour, now I can get like 40+ links in a hour without even trying that hard :)

NoFollow doesn't influence ranking. It just doesn't give PR credits. A link from a relevant PR7 site is great for your ranking. But it doesn't influence your PR.

Wikipedia for example, is nofollow, but get a link in Wikipedia and it will drive enormous traffic.

Ask yourself if you're looking for PR juice or traffic that will convert? Relevant links on relevant sites even if they are nofollow will produce traffic.

No follow will still pass traffic and many people say they have seen a slight boost in the websites authority status in SERP's by having strong no follow links as well. You can never really tell if they do anything so either way not a huge thing to worry about. If you are getting links naturally you won't have to worry about nofollow. One way nofollow can hurt you though is if you suddenly get a lot of nofollow which means you or someone else is probably spamming your domain.

Any backlink with anchor keywords linking to your site is considered as a good backlink. The higher the page rank, the better.

For me, since I tested with PR8 sites :
rel="[external] noFollow" (or in meta of course) : good way to make traffic but no ranking
no rel (dofollow) : traffic and ranking.
    >> ... boost in the websites authority status in SERP's by having strong no follow links as well.
perhaps in some cases, just with some high websites authority status ... and with others factors like content.
Today, I don't care if the links are or not dofollow for comments.

I actually have a kids science site that gets a lot of NF from moms who have blogs set up with that attribute. Originally I went to them and participated in their discussions for the traffic. But those links as well as others that I am getting now just because they like the site are actually helping me out greatly.

Definitely agree. I have notice Google alert shows me no-follow links also as links. Also no-follow links will give good traffic to your site. After all we are chasing after traffic. What else ?
