Question to all web designers

If someone for example here in dp hire you to design their web page, what's the payment process? I mean do you need to finish the work first before they pay you? or do they need to pay you first before you start the work? Or there should be a downpayment or something? I'm talking about in general here.

    Thanks in advance!

The buyer says what he wants. The Web developer says how much he will do it for. An agreement is reached. The Web developer builds the site. The buyer pays the money.

I think it's as simple as that in most cases.

I always ask for a 50% deposit upfront. I also state in my contract that should the client charge their mind that I have the right to bill for any work already undertaken.

You've got to cover yourself :)

I do this as well, also...I have a "Timeout" clause, where if content ideas or whatever aren't received within a certain amount of time (usually 90 days) the contract is deemed void, and any further work will require a new contract. Basically it is up to the web designer/developer as to what they require, each one is different.

I would do 50/50. If possible use local designers. I've met people in person, they do the work and I pay them cash. Fast, simple and effective!
