It's a shame that somebody like you can't give the entire forum a well deserved, bloody great big kick up the backside and clean out the scammers, fighters, rude aggressive individuals, those spoiling for a fight or arguing just for the sake of it and also the trigger happy mods in the background that choose to remain faceless.

At least you write clearly and constructively which is a pleasure to see a moderator at last, taking such an interest in this place.

As for the silly infractions handed out will nilly non stop, is there anything you can do to stop that, I mean it's just absolutely ridiculous the way they are handed out all the time for the most silly reasons possible.

Some of your audience here, we are quite mature in years you know. ;)

Well, the fact is that the whole internet is run by professionals much more than mere webmasters who synchronize their websites by using various professionals and content writers are amongst the most prolific professionals used online.

it's a fact that it's a buyer's market but for those buyers who don't know the importance of buying quality content over cheap drives the market crazy.. I think 90% of content bought is cheap! cheap meaning ridiculous which is why it isn't so lucrative to run your own business just doing article marketing or plainly article writing. It's ridiculous to live a lifestyle writing articles that have no meaning which thus tells me that it would be much better writing website content / ad copy / sales copy than write articles. It's become a cheap business at dp forums. Unfortunately there is no one who would like to make a change to push out all the scammers (cheap writers) from dp forums which itself is credible of the fact that it's a free market. Indeed I did mean to convince people here that the forums requires a change in the way it works, however, no one feels they could do anything to make the forum better. Anyway, I'd rather forget it and focus just on my life rather than mess around here. I love JHMattern and Y.L.Prinzel. They both have credible understanding of how to be a professional copywriter and I just think I'll make best use of their knowledge to make my life better rather than sit around and laugh at the foolishness of a few potholes.

Do you ever take a breath when you are talking in person? :D Those are some of the longest sentences I have seen in awhile. (I'm playing... OK?)

If DP kicked off all of the miscreants that have been labeled so far they wouldn't have a forum. The majority of web destinations are populated by people, people are all different. What one thinks of as a scammer may be nothing of the sort. What another group calls substandard may be the cats meow to another group. I would give an appendage to have a forum like this. Most forums today are pretty sad and starting a new forum is very difficult. It is outdated technology and most people ignore them.

I live in America. I realize that many here are from other cultures and maybe their way of doing business is cultural in nature. Maybe the competition in their world is so fierce that they feel they must sell at a reduced cost to even be in the market. Our culture is based on competing with the market and what it will except. I know that if the market gets to a point where even the best of the best are no longer selling their wares, and the competition is smoking them on price, they will have to also lower their price. That is the system we live in. The free market works that way.

There are many talented writers that have contributed to this debate and it has been healthy so far. Not all of these entries would qualify in my own view of what I consider substantial input, but I am only interpreting using my own references. I am sure THEY think their input is informative, maybe others do too. Who am I? I might be the one that is off a notch or two thinking I have something substantial to say. Who knows?

What I believe is that there are people here, specifically in this group, that have good intentions. They say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, but there are some here that actually walk the walk. I am not going to name anyone, you know who you are and the rest of us do to.

Here is what I am going to throw out there. It may sound impossible, but it is not. If we were to get together and become a unit, a company, I believe there is no mountain we could not move! I do not know why this is so hard for people to wrap their mind around. It is.

It has been a constructive thread...but why do I get the feeling that we are going to keep having threads like these and we will need to keep pointing out the same thing over, and over, and over....

It's like always crashing in the same car (or did I just desperately want to include a Bowie reference?).

I generally don't get involved in these conversations because it's like the mental equivalent of smashing my head against the wall. We'll see if I have the stamina next time--Jenn, I really don't know how you do it year after year.

If anything, I'm one of the toughest. It's very easy to avoid infractions - read the rules and stickies, and follow the rules. So I really have no sympathy for people who break the rules. With a forum this size, they're there for a reason.

Neither do I! lol Honestly, I just can't stand seeing people spread misinformation to unsuspecting newer writers. At least now there's a solid discussion, so if future ones are too similar, they can be closed and linked to this thread instead. Technically people aren't supposed to start threads to discuss something if other threads on the topic already exist - they should be adding onto the existing conversation instead.

Well, it must be frustrating, but it's also what keeps people like you and Jenn in high demand. I managed retail stores for years. Every time another manager or supervisor complained about employees needing to be coached again and again and again for the same thing, I reminded them that if everyone did their job, we wouldn't have one.

I think it is pretty easy to explain. cheap generally goes with low quality, while expensive generally goes with some quality.
that is how it is and i wonder if it will change soon.

Buyer always want cheap and quality world!

Many big companies (ibm, sun) transfered their positions from USA to India. Why? Beacuse companies wants the same thing.

That would certainly ease the pain :) Oh well, I guess as long as people pay it forward.

I wanted to mention something interesting that happened to me this week. I thought about starting a new thread for it, just so it would get noticed, but it really belongs here.

On the topic of networking and putting yourself out there in the right places (and knowing your right place) I joined a forum for insurance agents on Saturday. As you guys know, I'm a licensed agent and I specialize in writing content and marketing materials for insurance agents. Joining this forum makes sense because it puts me in the right place with the right people. By Monday, after only 3 posts in the forum, I was given a monthly gig at the top end of my rates--no negotiation, no barter, no whining. It's a monthly gig that will result in a substantial addition to my income. Additionally, this is a service that is established--so it's not a fly-by-night buyer.

Just sayin', put yourself where you need to be (yeah, first you gotta know where you need to be) and it will happen for you.

With some exceptions, many people who come to DP looking to buy content aren't looking for truly top notch quality. They're satisfied as long as it's accurate and coherent - any additions of literary flair are totally optional and sometimes go unnoticed even if they are included.

Wow. Congratulations! As you said, though, the hard part is figuring out where you need to be. Looks like you found a gold mine as far as your niche is concerned.

I think this just adds to the argument for why the best paid writers are specialists. I mean, you found a forum for insurance agents, which is very specific. Where is a generalist going to find a forum full of people that want their particular niche? They won't, because, uh, well, they don't have a particular niche! Unless you count DP, and this thread has already established how successful THAT strategy is :D

LOL seems as much of a no-brainer for you to go to an insurance forum as it was for you to pick finance as your specialty

Jenn: Not sure if you do this at all since it seems your numerous blogs and websites bring in so many of your clients, but are there any particular forums you have found helpful for finding clients for press releases? You have mentioned DP numerous times, but I wondered if there was anywhere else as well.

Also, while we are on the topic of niches, have you continued to write press releases for varied kinds of businesses, or have you become particular with that as well?

If you have the time and you can write yourself, you can save a lot of time and money by paying for $2 articles and just subbing/proofing them. Assuming that they're not irredeemably awful, of course.

There really aren't forums specifically for selling press release writing services. You would need to find a forum related to the niche you wanted to write for. For example, if you wanted to focus on book launch press release writing for authors, you would need to spend time in writing communities. If you wanted to write releases for musicians, you could look for music forums. Every type of business can benefit from press release writing (as with most types of business writing), so it's just a case of choosing a target and finding out where that market is.

I predominantly write press releases for small and online business owners, or their marketing, SEO, or design firms (who then subcontract their clients' releases to me). I still do some work occasionally for musicians and authors, which is leftover from my past PR firm focus where I worked with a lot of independent and creative professionals. I also occasionally work with larger corporate clients (some of which found me here surprisingly, but those gigs have most often come from people liking the no-nonsense attitude on my PR blog along with referrals from colleagues handling other projects for them).

I just remembered one client from DP that flat out told me to stop writing good content. He only wanted articles heavy with his keywords. The quality of the content didn't matter.

That experience sums up my experiment writing for the Content Creation forum.

As far as quality vs price? Well, that truly depends on the writer and the client, as well as the purpose of the article. Some people sell complete junk for a dollar an article, some people sell great work for more... it's the people that sell you junk for too much money that you have to watch out for. Also plagiarism. You always get what you pay for. I personally write high quality, enjoyable to read articles in packs of 15 and sell them for about $20. Unless someone purchases rights on them, I sell a flat 10 packs. I think that's a good combination of high quality and affordable price.

See, this is where I disagree with you, I made a joke to one poster, that was read absolutely and taken the wrong way by one moderator who obviously did not appreciate British dry humour, that earned me 5 infraction points in one go.

Next, I posted up an affiliate link on another thread of mine, within a minute or so literally another poster kindly pointed it out to me that this was against the rules, I immediately removed the affiliate link, within 3-4 minutes of the thread going up and at that point, only 2 thread views. Three days later for that so called offence I received another 2 infraction points.

That is just plainly ridiculous under any circumstances.

Further it's ridiculous to say complain about infractions will just earn you another infraction.

What kind of a model is that?

Do moderators never make mistakes themselves?

On another thread of mine just recently started up, just a couple of replies and you locked that thread down, your reasons unclear.

Goodness knows what I did in that thread to warrant such attention.

How was that breaking the rules?

Why is it that perfectly good posters get banned whilst others seem to be able to get away with murder?

Could it be that my thread that was just locked down was locked because I was asking for recommendations of the best writers on DP and in fact you yourself are offering the same services, therefore you felt threatened by such competition, even if at best many times the quality of said article writing by many is rather low quality to say the least?

As I said, this forum is just exceptionally odd, the way things are run around here.

    Very strange indeed.

Not that I expect you to contact me of course and discuss the issue in a reasonable and open manner, if you are indeed one of the 'toughest' moderators, goodness knows there what you are saying about yourself?

    Just weird, words fail me.

    Hi everyone!

Also a post from a writer's point of view.

When I first started out as a writer, I did low-paying jobs and many of them! But I assure you... you may write a lot and thus earn money, but it takes a lot of hours.

I believe you just need the courage to move away from clients that don't pay much and seek the higher paying jobs. I've done this and turned down work, even though I had time on my hands. I was terrified of doing this, but now I have good paying clients, work half as much as I used to and make more money. I can write in my own tempo at a decent rate.

With a morgage and other monthly expenses, I just cannot work for low prices any more and I don't understand how people can make a decent living out of it. But as long as people are willing to write for cheap prices, there will be clients looking for them. It's kind of like a vicious circle.

I once read this in one of Bob Bly's books:
Tell your clients to choose 2 of these things:
do you want it good, do you want it cheap, do you want it fast

In other words.. you cannot have it all!

    All the best!
