I am trying so hard to learn how to use wordpress, but all the sites I go to assume I know stuff I don't know. I went wordpress.org and went to their 5 minute installation directions - 3 hrs later I contacted my host who told me I had a MYSQL error and they corrected it for me.

MYSQL -??? I did not even know what the heck that was!

So then I try it on my own using the step by step detailed directions instead.

First bump I came to was the word shell - what is a shell?

So wordpress and everywhere else videos and such assume we ( I ) know these things and I don't

I did find a great video IF I could use a cpanel ( which I can't ) and they said on the video if you can't use a cpanel just use FTP instead - nope - HUGE difference! I do know FTP ( thankfully ).

So my question here is this - can someone led to a site that will teach me this as if I were 5 yrs old :p assuming I know nothing....

I have ran frontpage and ftp and css and just don't know a darn thing past these

PS: thewordpress.org support site - phhhh! takes a year and a day to get a response and then no one follows up to see if their response was what was needed

Download wordpress, unzip and upload to your webhost using FTP.

Open the web address (where you have uploaded the files), the installer will guide you through. You need to enter details of your MySQL DB (ask your host - simply ask 1. Host name to connect to mysql 2. User name 3 password ), get their help to create a new MySQL DataBase.

When you run installer, it will ask you to enter above details. This along with few other inputs, the installation will be complete. You can start blogging.

What is the host you are using? If its something faimilar to me, I can help you explaining a bit more.

I recommend the WordPress for Dummies book. It's a great starting point to understand the ins and outs of WordPress and the environment.
