Also, because of lot of spam and stealing links by publishers I had to stop article submitting service... article marketing works great - as long as you make the article unique each time you submit it. As for running an article site - you have to do the hard work of editing to ensure high quality.

That's actually not really accurate. Other than EzineArticles, most sites will accept duplicate articles and the whole duplicate content penalty on Google is vastly overblown.
Article marketing works great if all your works are unique. Plus if they are keyword or longtail keywords related to the topic you choose the better success you will have

If Google really punishes duplicate content, how do syndicated news stories (which are published on hundreds of websites at the same time) rank so well?
Article marketing still works if you do it right. Make sure your articles are unique and are more than 400 words. Also do keyword research of the long-tail keywords to get the most traffic.
When it comes to getting reasonable traffic per day, no, article marketing in those article dumpers is not effective. It never has been, and it never will be. You are seeing the norm. More experienced webmasters know this already. Unless one is happy with a few click-throughs now and then, which many clueless noobs seem to be. A minimum-paid worker gets more money, and works far fewer hours. The only exception is if you write for a site with heavy traffic. Like, say, About, or Askmen.
My whole service is based around this. Based on the results yes article marketing does work. And yes the penalty from Google is big. It's a waste of time submitting the same article to multiple directories if it isn't unique.
Article marketing is effective if done correctly. Submitting the same article to many directories doesn’t help much, but if you submit a unique high quality article to a single directory the results are definitive.
Copper, Hey, what's your way of getting reasonable traffic and what do you actually classify as "reasonable?" I definitely agree with everything else you are saying as well, but article marketing I think also depends on the niche you are in and what keywords/keyword phrases you are targeting.
I advertise. Next to word of mouth, it's the only way to get REAL traffic. None of this 20 or whatever hits a day crap. Reasonable traffic is getting daily traffic at least in the 3 figures, if not 4, and, WITHOUT the high bounce rate. danimal62, then you won't mind showing mteodor your article(s) that are "effective."
Yes, it still works I just made over 1k last month with article marketing and affiliate marketing... You need a good niche kw's and a ton of articles 10+ a day
