Is this Legal?

I have a video site and I was thinking to use Youtube for promotion. Would it be legal to download the Youtube videos, put a little logo at the bottom of the video and reupload? Or a logo at the beginning of the video?

    Thanks,

No. It is not legal to add your own logo to other peoples videos, or videos that you got from You Tube.

I have seen people design a custom player with a logo on the player, so as not to cover the You Tube logo, but I am not sure about that either.

If you want your logo on videos, you need to make them yourself, then they are yours to do what you wish.

Bottom line, you can't use someone else's stuff and plop your companies image on it as if you own it, or made it.

I'm pretty sure that when you download youtube movies, they don't even have the youtube watermark ;).

So would that make them legal? Or should I just put a link in the description just to be safe?

    Thanks,

don't say that it was yours, you should definitely mention who the original author was, that is, if you can't get approval from them first.

It is not legal, it's copyright infringement. People who have uploaded videos to YouTube have not given you permission to alter the videos in any way or to upload them to your site. It's also against the YouTube ToS.

Is there any way around it?

How about the music videos? People put their links on the video or something.

But yeah, is there any other way around it?

I would not recommend doing that at all. You will get into trouble. That is like putting a bulls eye on yourself.
