Paypal - Cannot use this credit card (add bank account)

I'm a US citizen and would like to send money via paypal without linking it my bank account. I created a new paypal account & verified a prepaid cc on that account. Unfortunately, I received the following error on my 1st payment attempt:

"You cannot use this credit card for this transaction. Please use another funding source. You will need to add and confirm your bank account. Once your bank account has been added and confirmed, you can continue this payment. Add your bank account information below."

I've successfully done this in the past. I'm assuming this time I triggered a paypal security measure because:

    1) I tried to send payment within 1 week of creating account
    2) used same ip address as old account
    3) did NOT delete cookies

Has anyone run into this problem before? Will aging the account work? Is there an inexpensive virtual bank account option? Or should I start over and delete cookies / ip address next time?

FYI - I'm not concerned about removing money from this account. I simply want to send $$ anonymously. There's no warning message in the account saying that it's been "limited."

For US PayPal to get verified you need to add and link your bank account. This process usually takes about 4-7 days. The credit card you added can be used after you add and link a bank account.

That's only if you wish to be fully verified. A partially verified US account (when you verify a CC but not your bank account) will still allow you to send $$ up to a certain limit.

I've done it twice before without problems. This time I was sloppy with the ip address / cookies & did not age the account.

Australian, US Bank PayPal accounts have to be verified by a Bank Account, New Zealand Paypal accounts for instance only need a Credit card to be verified, I am not sure why but maybe signing up with a New Zealand PayPal Acc and using a Prepaid Credit card to verify it.

Wizzle - That's a good point. Has anyone from the US successfully setup an account in a different country using a prepaid CC? That would bypass the bank account requirements, but would my ip address and the prepaid CC info trip a paypal alert?

Has anyone done this? If yes, what card did you use?

If you are in the US then just open a new bank or credit union account just for paypal purposes - so it's not tied to your main bank account.

Just tried it again with a new VanillaVisa prepaid CC and it worked like a charm. Trick is to clear out your cookies and change your ip address before creating the new paypal account. After I verified the paypal expunge code charge on the CC, it lifted my sending limit from 0 to $2,000. The account is still listed as "unverified" but I just made a successful payment using the prepaid CC.

So you do NOT have to link a bank account to be able to send money via paypal.

Wow... It's amazing how many users don't have a clue about multiple paypal accounts. Linking a bank account will reduce your odds of being limited, but it is NOT the only option. Unverified users can still send & receive $$ with only a prepaid CC. I've successfully done this for over a year Only ran into a problem when I created 5 accounts without clearing cookies (including flash cookies). While I haven't tried it yet, you can also use a virtual bank account for complete verification. I found 2 companies offering them for $15 to $20.

For anyone that wants real answers, just search for "Ebay Stealth" on google. It's a bit pricey at $36, but you can also do trialpay ($5 purchase on godaddy). It tells you how to create multiple ebay & paypal accounts and reduce your odds of being limited. Plus, it shows you how to fix an account that's already been limited.

Now that I've got a new account up and running, I'm going to try their tips for fixing the limited accounts.

Is there a way to edit a post instead of double posting?

Ok - Just got all of my accounts back up and running. Looks like the "Cannot use this credit card (add bank account)" means that Paypal has linked your dup accounts together and they're going to limit your accounts. Funny thing is... they wait until you transfer money into one of the accounts before limiting it. No doubt in an effort to maximize their profits by seizing an account that cannot be verified. No wonder so many people hate paypal. :)

Fortunately, all I had to do was purchase a new prepaid cc & setup a call forwarding service to get past the limitation. Tried a trac phone at first but they flagged it as a cell phone and wouldn't accept it. So I had to use a call forwarding company. Found one with a free trial... so didn't cost me anything.

FYI - For everyone with duplicate paypal accounts. Be sure to clear out your regular cookies & FLASH cookies too. Also, be careful about logging into ebay under a different account (ebay & paypal are linked).

    Congrats... Good for you dude.
IMO, by verifying your PP account (and if everyone else did) you will be helping us doing better and more secure business ;)
