at what kind of updates are you referring ? If you refer about pagerank updates i think ~4 times a year
serps and internal pagerank are updated continously the pagerank you may see in google toolbar is updated around every 3 months.
well, the googlebot crawls the web constantly. It isnt like you update your site and google sees it, but when the bot comes by the page will get included in the search engines.
