It would be nice if you take a pic with your handycam of 10 Megapixel !!

I have observed that pics taken from handycam are better than cameras ! :)

    Hi ,

What does matters in choosing a Camera :-
    1.) Megapixels it can capture
2.) Zoom (Optical is the best, Digital doesnt add any value)
So always a high megapixel with good optical zoom is better, Digital zoom doesnt matters .

Now in your case you have to take from stadium then your optical zoom will play important role because of the distance, Megapixel is basically used as measure of quality for printing they dont have anything to do with Zoom

You can choose the XX megapixel Camera based on what is your requirement to print

To repeat, we do not compare optical zoom with megapixel resolution because optical zoom is not megapixel resolution-dependent. That is, the resolution of your final image does not change no matter how much you zoom in. If your digital camera is 5MP and has a 12x optical zoom lens with focal length of, say, 30-360mm, then at 30mm, your image is 5MP and at 360mm, it is still 5MP. With digital zoom/enlargement, the megapixel resolution decreases as you "zoom" in digitally ; if you try to bring the cropped image back to the same 5MP size, then there is pixels interpolation and the resulting image suffers in quality.

    OPTICAL ZOOM vs DIGITAL ZOOM
As mentioned at the start, What matters is OPTICAL ZOOM because digital zoom does nothing then adding blur , look at pictures below

DIGITAL ZOOM : Picture taken with digital zoom

OPTICAL ZOOM : Picture taken with optical zoom

Always disable digital zoom in camera, choosing to do our own cropping and enlarging in an image editing software.

FOR STADIUM USE : Minimum OPTICAL ZOOM : 10x needed
again as i said its minimum , based on how close capture you want to have can go upto 26x as well
from 10x to 26x will be a good OPTICAL ZOOM for STADIUM based on your photography needs

DIGITAL ZOOM : doesnt matters even if there is no digital zoom

It is not the MEGAPIXEL which matters for quality pics, better to take a high zoom lenses cam to take the pictures at stadium.

The DSLRs are the best one for such stuff. u can have different lenses for different works.

Take a look at the Canon Rebel. Its easy enough for people just getting into photography, but has enough features for the more advanced users.

When my wife wanted an SLR digital camera, I looked all over the place for reviews and suggestions. Out of all the camera review sites and forums I went to, one camera kept being suggested and the was the Rebel. And now I understand why. My wifes camera is 8 megapixel, but its 2+ years old. Since I bought that one for her, the 10 and 12 megapixel have been released.

So my suggestion is a Canon Rebel in at least 12 megapixel. Then get you a good zoom lens to go on it.
