I'm trying to decide if Yahoo! Directory submission ($299 USD) is worth the money for my site http://dollarhauler.com/ Will it really help enough to be worth the $300 a year? Regards, Tom Guilleaume
I believe it will onyl increase your SERPs and give you little to no traffic like any other directory. It is just good to have a listing because it is a high authority directory like dmoz.
In ten years I've never paid them a penny but it really depends on your customer profile and how much hurry you are in. I've always found it takes the longest to get listed in Yahoo via natural evolve. Well not longer then Demoz but the is a short cut to that one if you become editor ;-)
As a rough estimate, a link in DMOZ was worth about a hundred links from forums / blogs about three years ago (at least in my niche), and has been steadily decreasing since then. I have a hard time believing Yahoo's paid inclusion is worth more than that. Probably a great deal less.
No its not worth it. Don't waste your money. Its just like any other link. You won't get much if any traffic from it. Search on these forums and you will see a lot of people saying they wish they have never paid.
I never tried Yahoo. for 300$ I can get 1000 adwords visitors to my website, which is probably more than the difference I would get by getting listed there.
Thanks for the replies! I'll probably post it up in a few months as the money comes around. Right now it just isn't worth it, and maybe it won't be then either. Thanks!
its certianly not worth it to me, but if i had a majyor biz and was global i might try it but for the average user thats extreamly high.
hi... I have a commercial site that falls in and out of yahoo SERPS. It is not listed on the yahoo directory.it be worth it to pay the $300/per year
If you want to save your time, then yahoo directory is worth it. However, if you have enough tie to monitor your money, then better use them on adwords
I hope this is not a crazy way to drive traffic do your website As for the Yahoo Directory I wouldn't invest 300$ there.
I say "wait until the bankruptcy" ---- when Yahoo goes belly-up, the new owner will lower the price. Everyone knows that Y! is on shaky financial ground right now!
It might depend to a large extent on your target audience, if you are targeting predominately a US audience it may be worth it, but even then I would say your money could be spent better elsewhere.
