Hi guys, So I have been experimenting with SEO on my blog lately and noticed some of the big-wigs actually leave out their site name in the page title on article specific pages....so say the site name was "Hotblog" and the post was "Dogs go to heaven", the index would the titles "Hotblog" but when you view that article specifically, you see only "Dogs go to heaven". Can this be more beneficial from an SEO stand point? Are there any negative effects as well to doing it this way? Thanks.
I'm not familiar with blogs/WP, but do know a little SEO. You only want your main keywords and related text in your Title. So Hotblog has nothing to do with Dogs go to heaven, so it should not be included. On the other hand, if the sitename was HotDog, then this might be a different story
Well I guess I better be specific. I have a blog called lvl2 Gamer, and for the moment I have set it up so it goes (Post title) | (Site title - which is lvl2 Gamer) All the posts are going to be about video games...so should I leave out the lvl2 Gamer still, since it's not really 100% relevant?
Well, from an SEO perspective, I would say not to include the site title. Since your title has Gamer in it, Google could possibly view that as keyword stuffing if a lot of your Title posts has the word game in it or anything similar to game. From a website perspective, I honestly don't see why you would want to. What purpose does it serve? Doesn't that look kinda tacky? Title: Check out Game #1....lvl2 Gamer Foobar Games....... lvl2 Gamer Might even be confusing. This is just my thoughts. I hope someone else jumps in with some views. Good luck!!
Ok, I see. I think I might just chop out the site name completely, since the logo already has the site name. Whatever helps my SEO makes me happy. I have the site name on the hope page, so I think that's worthwhile enough. I see big sites like Kotaku, Gizmodo, etc, doing this as well by leaving out their site name.
Including your site name in the <title> element is typically a bad idea. It only serves to dilute keyword density within your <title> for the 'real' targeted keywords. It actually makes it harder for your page to rank for the targeted keywords from the <title>. The only place I really include the site name in the <title> are pages that contain 'company' type info like about us or contact us pages.
Alright guys, thanks for the help. Ive heeded these words and made the changes. Hopefully I can see some results one day
