difference between the indexed and non-indexed pages

Can anyone let me know what is the exact difference between the indexed pages and non-indexed pages..

Need some input on this topic..

An indexed page is a page that is listed in google's or yahoo's index. You can see the google indexed pages for your site by going to google and typing site:www.yourdomainname.com. That will give you a list of indexed pages.

Of course any page not listed isn't in the index.

 

And in addition to that, the pages not indexed will not appear in the search results of course.

 

How to I get non-indexed pages indexed?

I know I read sometimes Google doesn't indexes all the pages. Why? Is it because of poor content?
