They aren't going to just "give" you money if that's what you are looking for. But if you are good, there's no limit as to how much money you can make though them.

True. But there are some risks also.

I was a fan of adsense (& lazy too). When I started making some decent $$$, I thought that is the end of the world. Then one of my friends told me that there is something worth in cj to give it a try.

The first time I tried something on CJ, I made real losses. Then I had a lucky break with one advertiser by doing a Lead program. Believe me it was not any financial stuff.

2 months I made some decent money. The advertiser's balance ran out. I had to wait for another 2 months 2 get paid. Then the advertiser suddenly woke up from his sleep and reduced all the commissions. Ofcourse I got the previous payment promptly after a delay of 2 months.

I had a model of driving traffic with PPC to a landing page. Now all my dreams have vanished & I am yet to find another decent program.

Another tough thing I find with cj is that there are a lot of good number of good programs, who just reject our applications blind folded.

Yes, there certainly is risk... especially when trying to locate programs that work well for you. For every 10 affiliate programs I try, 9 of them I stop after a month. But when you find one that works well for your site/userbase, etc. you can make crazy money from it.

Muthuis, that is a sad story.

Shawn, being new to marketing aff. programs I am certainly surprised to hear that you reject 9 out of 10. Something to think about for me as I locate more aff. programs for my site and nearly 10K list.

    Thanks

It's not that 9 out of 10 are unprofitable, it's just 9 out of 10 aren't profitable ENOUGH. If you make 10x more with 1 program verses 9 other programs combined, it's not worth the time to focus on those 9 IMO.

    I hear that.

Other than the obvious, testing and tracking, how do you look for those very profitable ventures?

You can check the EPC performance of each program.

EPC is a good parameter. But though I have a big big problem using PPC. When I do PPC with Some programs I spend more than what I get out of it.

I create a separate site and use the advertiser's landing pages. If I try to create one, some advertisers don't give enough creatives/banners with which we can design a neat site.

Anyway without digressing, how do we find the relevant/profitable keywords for PPC? Is it just overture/adwords keyword tool? If so do we market all keywords...

i choose retailers with commission at least 20%, EPC is not accurate indicator, it doesn`t account for reversals, for example webhost advertisers with high EPC also have high reversal rate

That's the only way I know of... at least to know for sure. I generally will run a new program for a month to give it a chance, then decide after that month "probationary period" if I want to bother continuing with it or not.

Depends on what you mean by good money. I make on average $2000 a month through CJ which is good I think for the amount of time I put into it.

You have to decide how much you want to make and how much time you think is acceptable to make that amount. BTW, I got my first check from CJ about 3 months after I started using them (~$300) and I've been with them 10 months so far.

Not to mention all my commissions come from a free geocities account. :)

Hmm! I am probably realizing my mistake. I need not have spent the money on buying domains.

Neverthless buying new domains probably brings some amount of seriousness to put in some time & effort into such ventures.

Can u share some of your success notes?

    • How do u choose your programs?
    • Are you using PPC?
    • If u use PPC, how do u find keywords?
    • Any other relevant factors to be considered?

I am kinda lost in this jungle..
