I've got the feeling that submitting to general directories except dmoz and yahoo is not worth at all. I mean yahoo's siteexplorer which shows the larger amount of backlinks don't show them at all. Niche resource links (we might call it niche directories), usually found with "your niche resource" or "your niche links" are on the other way links which have some worth at least speaking of yahoo's siteexplorer. Do I have right? If you think not, please provide some examples for opposite.
Well, in my case, they have proven to be very helpful. I started doing directory submissions only recently and my SERPS have increase A LOT. (this is because i wasnt really building links before, not having enough time to). So, i definately think directory submissions are worth it. Every link matters...IMO
AnaB do you have other links or just directory links? The only definite answer to this question could know somebody who did JUST directory submission and nothing else.
I've recently done directory submissions for a few sites for which I have previously only done on-page SEO - and their rankings in Google have increased significantly. From nowhere until a month ago when they turned a year old, they suddenly appeared on page 8, then 4, 3, 2 and the best is currently bottom third of page 1 for the link phrase I've been submitting. So I'd say definately yes, directory submissions do help a lot, especially if you use a keyword phrase you want to rank for as the link text.
I think they help. I have noticed that even when I don't get approved, I get a link from the directory. Usually when you submit your info goes into a db. If a search engine crawls the directory before they deny you, you wind up with a link. That doesn't help for traffic, but it helps with SEO.
Well i do have other links, but they have been there forever. Ok, heres the deal, i had my site put up in January and focused on getting other links like reciprocals , blog links etc...alright, now when i joined DP, i started doing a LOT of directory submissions...my serps have really increased. So, I dont know if its my site getting out of the sandbox (although i believe i was out of the sandbox earlier cuz I did rank for other keywords)
I've had good short-term and long-term results from directory submissions. Some of the higher PR directories can be a good way to jumpstart a new site for free. Long-term, the links you pick up get better over time as the directory's PR increases. Look for directories that are being actively promoted by their owners - the Solicitations & Announcement section here is always a good place to start.
Certainly does! Directories are better than link farm because links are categorized. You'd get a relevant inbound link.
