Does Page Rank Have Any Affect On Where You Rank In Google?

I have noticed that now that my home page has a PR of 2 that it ranks higher in google search results for higher searched keywords, is this true? Basically I want everyone's opinion if google give precedence to a site with a higher PR for the same keywords, does this have any affect?

If PR was viewed as a tape measure, it shows that you have more linkage to your site. The more linkage, the better your chances at ranking high IF other factors are in place, such as on page optimization, etc...

If 2 sites have equal on page optimization and one has higher PR, chances are that one will rank higher. But there are other factors as well, such as the anchor text of those links. I suggest working on getting links with proper anchor text to pages that have been optimized and watch your ranking grow before you see your PR grow.

it affects the value of the link from a site, the more the PR the more link juice it passes.

In general, websites that rank high are gradually assigned higher PR, as was said above, not vice versa.

Though people have been saying that PR does carry some weight in the algorithm of the serps, but my personal experience is contradictory to it.

I have observed many times, a good PR site ranked way below its lower counterpart....

    I don't think it does!

I have a PR 4 site that has next to no rankings in Google and there are some sites with no PR that rank in the top 10. I would say focus on optimising the site organically by building good links and unique relevant textural content and Page Rank and top rankings will come. I wouldn't stress over your PR though!

Pagerank does not have any direct effect on SERPs. It helps serps in 2 ways.

As PR is gained through backlinks, it means that you have some backlinks which helps you in SERPs if you have proper anchor.

PR is also the measure of authority of a website. Same video if posted in a little video site and youtube with same details, the youtube page will always come up above in SERPs due toi authority/trust of Youtube.

    Hope that helps

If you don't understand Page Rank then I would suggest you start by reading The Anataomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine which was Sergey Brin and Larry Page's whitepaper at Stanford that was there blueprint for what was to become Google. It is where they first talked about this thing called page rank (pay special attention to section 2). Once you understand the formula, you will see that a URL's PR is simply a function of it's inbound links... a measure of link popularity... Period.

Wikipedia also has a decent summary of the Page Rank formulas as well which are pretty much taken from the previous whitepaper.

Once you've absorbed that, if you're still hungry for knowledge about PR then move on to reading a Google patent on Page Rank where they explain it as well.

Page Rank and your rankings in the SERPs are not the same thing. The Page Rank of your URL is only one of 200+ ranking factors that Google looks at when they are trying to rank your URL for a particular keyword phrase and it carries very little weight in the ranking algorithm.

PR is based on how many inbound links your URL has... It's a measure of the URL's link popularity.

PR is really not that important. It's overrated. How you rank in the search engine for keyword phrases that people would likely be using to find your site and other sites about the same topic as yours is MUCH more important than what PR shows up in the little green bar on your Google Toolbar.

Make sure all your anchor text links are similar to the ones you have in your signature here.

That is completely false. Toolbar PR never increases just because your SERPS increase. This is how BS information gets passed along.

I don't think PR affects your SERP results. SERP's depend on quality content!

Only on-site SEO and backlinks have influence on where you rank, page rank has no influence

PageRank is based on the number and quality of your backlinks. Backlinks are extremely important for ranking high so you do the math ;)

Yes page rank can influence your position on Google ranking, but not all the time. If two pages have the same everything but different page rank, the page with a higher page rank will rank better than the one with a lower page rank.

Well, from the above comments it is very clear that everyone acceps PR as a measure of backlinks.

and we all know good quality backlinks can really help in SERP rankings. So having some PR under your belt may help to get some higher rankings.
although, it is not the only thing that google will pay attention to. You need to have some good unique content in addition to the quality backlinks.
