If you mean Africa doesn't have enough people, I can understand this.

The population density of EUROPE is more than DOUBLE the population density of Africa and about the same as the United States.

Yet, you have people in the United States/Europe talking as if there are too many people in Africa. It sounds like a pretense to genocide to me.

And when... have you ever mentioned Africa in a POSITIVE manner.

The first thing you write is some negative BS as if all things are bad are located in one place without presenting the other side of the argument.

Typical propaganda piece to prop up yourself at the expense of another group.

The sheer arrogance that this fool of a writer presumes to speak for 50+ countries, vast geographic variety, 100s of different cultures, 100s of different langauges...

and group them all into 1 stereotype...

and proceed to condemn them all.

    Real original.

Why do I have to mention Africa in a positive manner? Is it a rule or law someone passed without telling me? Nobody has to mention anything in a positive manner.

How is it propaganda? The author holds no allegiance to any anti African/Ethiopian party or group. Hes a journalist, admittedly venting his annoyance at the world view and handling of Africa and more specifically Ethiopia at the expense of other countries who would have prospered by now if given half the chance.

Were did I say everything bad is in Africa? Your dreaming now or did you read anything here before you decided to attack?

Your on a hate roll aren't you? The world is full of cultures and languages this doesn't make Africa anything special or different. Where there's people there's culture and language. Why bring it up?

Also hes not speaking "for" hes speaking "of" just like me and you. How does that make him arrogant? Again hes a journalist who (if you read the op) has been to the place he writes about. This alone doesn't prove his expertise on the subject but it does show at least he has taken a positive interest. Have you been to Ethiopia? Me neither but then I am not attacking the man.

The point is this is the other side of the argument or as I would prefer to call it the issue. Less argument and more discussion please.;)

I honestly don't think the author was trying to convey such a message but if you did fair enough:) As I said before he is venting so that may have clouded the issue for some.

My initial reaction to the article was one of contemplation. Why are we giving so much money to Africa and not seeing anything good come of it after all these years? There is a serious problem with Africa but I personally don't believe its the Africans themselves. Nobody wants to live with war and famine being the only constant in there lives. So what do we do?

I say stop giving Africa so much and start spreading the charity around more.

This is exactly what I say. All of the Europeans should leave Africa now! Keep your so-called money and LOANS and AID (or is that AIDS :p).

Get all the multi-nationals out! Get all the aid workers out! Get all the spies/agents/intelligence agencies from the US/Europe out! Get all the missionaries out! Get all the advisers/observers/researchers out!

Of course, the US/Europeans can't help but meddle in the affairs of African societies and cultures.

If Africans could just keep their lumber, platinum, gold, aluminum/bauxite, cocoa, diamonds, silver, coal, natural gas, wheat, and I almost forgot, OIL, then Africa would probably flourish.

Of course, the writer is too much of an idiot to realize his comfortable lifestyle is being paid for by African misery.

Damn, don't go mentioning they have OIL in an American forum. We all know how that will end! :)

No, seriously, good points raised there PioneerGold though i'm not sure how it would flourish with the same corrupt leaders running things.

The US/Europe wants corrupt leaders. It makes it easier to "appropriate" African resources.

It seems, whenever an African country starts to stabilize, that is resource-rich, and independent of US/Europe... out-of-the-blue some rebel group materializes to undermine the progress (Nigeria, Zimbabwe, the Sudan, etc.).

When an African leader rises that wants to fight US/Europe influence, first he is hit with sanctions.

Then he is hit with the media blitz.

Then, he is hit with military action, usually through some rebel group and sometimes through direct assassination.

Finally, the "puppet" leader is installed and the US/Europe multinationals move in to steal everything not nailed down leaving the people of the African country destitute and worse for the experience.

Wow, it's posts like this that makes me realise I am so naive as to the way this world often works. Your points are plausible and thought-provoking PioneerGold.

Thinking about why I'm naive on this, I guess I know enough to stay out of things I know nothing about and haven't ventured there yet.

Everywhere you look it seems there's so much bad needed to make the good stuff happen!

It isn't just the US and Europe at this. China and Russia are at it as well. Also this isn't a simple system run by a group of evil wannabe dictators. Its a complex system run by big business and governments that's been finely tuned over the centuries. Another reason to leave Africa alone! Our governments cant behave in there own countries how can we trust them to behave in other countries? Especially 3rd world countries.

Hopefully, you see why I consider the writer of the article an ignorant, silly fool.
