How much should I pay for a domain

    Hello,

I have the chance to purchase a domain using godaddy's services.

Godaddy charges 60 dollars plus 10% of the purchase price for their services. In addition I have to pay the purchase price of the domain.

The domain is good. The number of searches for the exact search phrase contained in the URL exceeds 200K and the CPC as per adwords is above 2 dollars.

The competing supply for the exact search term is about 1 million (with quotes) and about 21 million (without quotes).

How much then should I pay for this domain.

I know that if the exact search phrase is contained in the URL then it really helps for SEO. I hope the guys here will confirm this for me though.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

    regards

    Nikhil

Would really have to know a lot more about the domain to be able to help you. Just a few different words used in a phrase domain or if it is a one word domain the spelling difference could mean a lot. There are probably 20-30 factors involved in pricing a domain as well as checking to see if it is blacklisted by Google or Spam detectors etc.

$60 isn't the domain price, thats just the initial cost of asking Godaddy to try and arrange the purchase for you. You still have to pay the domain cost on top of that, ie. whatever the seller agrees to sell it for.

nikhilg, the keyword in the domain is only one of many factors that can impact rankings. The domain might be very valuable if it already had rankings and traffic. But you will still have to work hard to get the website to rank so don't pay too much for just a domain name.

Thanks to all for their replies.

Especially the point made about making sure that the domain is not banned or blacklisted by google or spam detectors is important.

Anyone have any idea how to go about doing that. i can ask godaddy to confirm but they will ask for 60 dollars upfront.

Thanks again to all for their replies.

    regards
