Wow, I totally wasn't aware of this. Gonna give this a test and see if it's true.

One of the more interesting threads I've seen of late. I'm pretty sure that most people have or at least had a false idea of what nofollow actually means.

A link is a link. A nofollow link is considered a link, but google won't count it as a value to our SERP.

I believe they do count it, but they might not have that much of a relevance.

You might see the links on Webmaster Tools, but as I see SERPs are not affected.

    Guys, come on, use logic:)

    1. Rel="nofollow" attribute prohibits the link from passing linkjuice (PR).
    2. PR and SERPs have little in common.
    3. Why can't a rel="nofollow" link influence rankings?

There is no logic gap in here, everything is pretty simple.

well the truth is we do not know and we wont either.

this is old news.. I've noticed it since I've started using google webmaster tools since a year ago..

and yes, nofollow links is counted as backlinks .... but it doesn't pass pagerank.

Maybe they do, but you won't get a PR or SERP increase with this kind of links, so... it's useless, unless you can get some traffic from there.

The only logic for "nofollow" is to prevent spammers from spreading their trash all over the internet. Who says they spam the internet to get PR? here is your 'logic gap'.

We can't really now if Google count or not even if they say they are not.
They might have lower points but no one really know.

Forget about PR, nofollowed links can't boost your SERPs ranking. Period.

Nobody knows for sure, except Google people.

But here we are analyzing some info, provided by Google, that apparently shows that the change the nofollow stuff without making it public.
Also, many things point in the same direction.

I can't tewll you for sure anything, but looks like we have to keep the eyes open in this point.

Just focus on do follow link, since the link juice will not flow from no follow site. :)

I think google counts them as votes. Why wouldn't they?
I know you are telling them not to, but if you are a good site and you link out to someone that has relevant content and you nofollow it if I was google I would not even pay attention to the nofollow.
I think at times you have to disregard what they say and then about what you would do.
