After a discussion with my dad recently (who calls himself an html programmer), the discussion of text editor vs html editor came up. What do you use when designing/modifying your scripts/website?

Me, I can't stand html editors (Fireworks, Frontpage, Dreamweaver, etc), because they encourage sloppy coding and a lack of understanding of what's really going on. I' start all new projects in UltraEdit, which allows me to do everything remotely (ftp, project management, etc). What do you use, and why?

I use HTML editor personally because it is time saving and also for me it is really difficult to memorize the hard code. So i prefer HTML editors.

All of the best coders use text editors (edit the HTML themselves), it is more efficient, works the way you code it to and in the long run is more rewarding.

I could never get the hang of those WYSIWYG editors anyway, they are too hard to use and too many functions.

I dont use HTML editors like dreamweaver that hide the real code, I started with Notepad, used Notepad++ then I stick with Editplus as it has higher feature set than Notepad++. Especially you cant use regular expression search in Notepad++. Like find all lines ending with a $ followed by a linebreak. Try doing it in notepad++

HTML only, as only using HTML, or code view in WYSIWYG editor, you can see the actual page architecture, and avoid many logical mistakes.

For HTML Coding & Web Designing I use Dreamweaver you can write code just as notepad in the text mode or design the web page in the Design Mode. And you can also handle databases in Dreamweaver. I am using Dreamweaver for 2 years.

For designing, and I am no designer, I will use dreamweaver with live preview on. I like the code completion and the css completion. Then once the design is done, it's off to Zend Studio for Eclipse.

I use Dreamweaver, but I mainly use it for the simplicity of managing the files, rather than actually creating the pages with it. I write the code myself.

I use a FoxPro program I wrote to write all of my pages for me. No point in me spending an hour per page when my program will do 1200 pages per hour after which I FTP about 1400 pages per hour to my host. Best part is that there are NEVER any dead links. And if I need to make any kind of a programming change to the webpages, I make it once in the FoxPro program and all webpages are automatically updated with the new code when the content is updated.

When building sites, I tend to use Dreamweaver and other html editors. It is simple to design and create. But when editing or soing simple modification, I use notepad. Notepad can really be useful.

I woundlt suggest any WYSIWYG editor either. It is best to hand code it yourself. I use DreamWeaver for that, as it allows me to code as well, using PHP as well as allows me to take care of CSS.

I prefer dreamweaver, as it will automatically close tags for you by simply typing </ and, it auto completes fields for you like a h comes up as a href="" with your cursor already between the quotes.

I haven't used the notepad++ before, should I try it?
