    Hello DP'ers,

Am leaving for the holy place of Shirdi tonight. And will be back tomorrow evening.

It's said that here in India - you only get to visit these pilgrims if God himself calls you. Otherwise, one thing or the other holds you back.

Am going there after 12 years and it's just 6 hours drive from my place.

Am so excited. So just wanted to let everyone know.

Completely agree with you on above statement.

Visited shirdi once (8-10 years back) and want to go there again but don't know when  though i visit sai baba temple once in a week (every thursday) which is near my house (2-3 kms.). Lets hope for the best.

You don't need to be in Mumbai to visit it. However, you have the advantage of completing the trip within a day if you're in Mumbai.

I am on good terms with the son of the local MP - I got a letter from him and it got me a VIP pass :)

Caught a Volvo bus last night from Chembur to Shirdi - the bus dropped me like 2 minutes away from the temple in the morning at around 6.30. Got a room for 500 bucks (there were 4 of us) till 1.00 PM. Had a bath and Tea and set off to the Darshan at 9.00 AM. While on my way to the temple, visited the office of the Tour company and they informed me that they had a return Mercedes Benz bus at around 12.00. Booked it.

Had a great Darshan, had a mild breakfast and departed with the bus at around 12.15. Again stopped for lunch in a roadside Dhaba at Sinnar, Nashik. Had lunch and was in Mumbai by 7.00. Once reached, went to the place where we had parked my car. Took it and drove to Siddhivinayak temple. Had darshan and rushed off to Haji Ali along with Mahalaxmi and got back home.

    Wonderful trip. Must say.

This is exactly the reason why I do not prefer to visit the temple...these days.

I hate seeing the differentiation being made on the basis of the person's wealth and proximity to power status rather than his deed.

I get to see the GOD in his full glory...just by closing my eyes! :)

    Regards,

Well, that was required IMO. A friend who had accompanied us sufferes from Asthma, and even a mild suffocation triggers the attacks for him.

VIP system has been there in almost all large temples of India and I doubt it has anything to do with politics. The local MP is a member of the Sai Baba trust and hence we got the VIP Passes.

It's not about being treated VIP with got, it's just there to save you from wasting your time.

Also, in Shirdi, the VIP entrance just saves you the trouble of standing the queue that starts outside, which saves a good one hour. You, anyways, have to join the same queue once you enter the VIP gate, which does take another couple of hours to reach the Samadhi :)
