I believe google could put youtube out of business quick if they wanted.

Do not forget, google did not become so successful by accident.

They could easily kill ebay with an auction site but they are not. And the list goes on and on.

Google can earn money when ever they want from any where, what they have to do just play 5 second advertisement before every video. so i not think they have to worry much about this.

yeah they are like everyone else and don't bother trying to earn money huh ? if it was that easy then they wouldn't be loosing money for the fun of it ... it's more complicated than that ...

I think the key thing is the vast amount of user generated irrelevant content that's being posted. And, to be fair, this is exactly what Youtube was founded on.

It was not until it became such a popular place for "crappy" or funny videos, that people saw the potential of the traffic to the site, and used it for their marketing needs. Then not to mention record labels and unsigned acts jumped on the band wagon to to promote their music.

But it's a very valid point that the fact these user generated videos with no real target, are hard to monetize.

Bit of an odd situation really.

As for charging business to host their marketing skills on Youtube? Absolutely. It's not like this videos bring Youtube huge amounts of views in the first place, and the only person really benefitting from these would be the marketer himself. But would there really be enough of these types of user to actually impact their running costs? I don't really know.

Would certainly be interesting to see where Youtube is in 3 years time.

It is possible, to get sponsors for videos, look a voxant / newsroom / grab networks ... they have 100s of advertisers for their videos and the majority create the videos themselves ... associated press, bbc and various news channels.

Does this really surprise anyone? I've always wondered how the hell Google made mony off of YouTube. Now I know. They don't.

    1.) Huh? Google owns YouTube.

    2.) True.

3.) LOL!!! Google could NEVER kill eBay. People think Google=God. You really think Google with zero auction experience could take down eBay? Ridiculous.

NO! Again, Google is not God. And they already tried the 5 second advertisement thing awhile back but it pissed everyone off so they stopped doing it.

I would hate to see Youtube go because it's the only way I know how to upload a video by using their quick capture feature.

Opppps forgot about the "spammers" (like this idiot) whom will spam blogs, directories,or anything else he can find
where he can drop a link and run... (if you notice he has about 3 other youtube accounts yet nothing is done about it)

I'll be honest I'm using dailymotion or other new video's these days than youtube. youtubes reached that point where its just overloaded with advertisement video's, or misleading titles that I choose to go elsewhere.

Youtube need to get their act together, start to put down some proper rules which are enforced, otherwise Youtube will just get worse and worse and just die. I cannot see Google, not trying their best to keep YouTube because of the popularity they receive from it.
