I'm a web programmer, and I don't understand how people will know that a vB site is pirated in order to report it. I'd love to build some piracy checking into my web applications, but what's generated on a web browser is the same between a legit copy and a priated copy, how can you tell the difference?

Usually it's as simple as they try to post somewhere they can't while saying they have a vBulletin forum or they simply brag about it. No one, at least not me, is running around looking for them.

Your reasoning is sound, beyond them ratting themselves out, ya can't tell it seems.

VB no longer allows resale of their license.

When did that happen? I looked over at their forums and could not see anything about that? I was hoping to buy a second hand owned license soon..

Not sure how long its been in effect, I heard it a few months ago on another forum in the middle of a site for sale thread. From their license agreement, it seems like they just may let you get away with it depending on their mood and the weather:

AS long as the licence is 3 months old I've never had a problem buying and selling licences before.

I bought vB. vB is a quality software and worth every penny. Plus if you have your own license you can get great plugins and products at vbulletin.org.

wow, i can't belive so many people love VB! I have a phpbb forum right now and have never used VB before and never thought VB was so different from bb. Now that i hear so many good things about it, i might try it too. So please can someone compile a list of things that VB has that bb don't? Does VB has all the things you usually need a mod for in bb integrated ?

I just bought my first license, I'm very impressed. Not as easy to install plugins as say Joomla, but very good nonetheless

i bought it and have made about $4,000 of my forums in a little over a year with vip sections/advertisements

Pretty much yes, it has a lot of features than a non modded phpbb, the reason im thinking of buying it..it becomes really hard to update phpbb when you have too many mods, and you cannot safely run an open source forum without updating it everytime a patch is released.

To know if VB is pirated or not, try to login to VB support forum using the domain of that VB forum... if the script is registered you should be able to log-in..

Actually, you can't log in without password and username.. @ OP i would suggest VB to use for your forum, so better buy it.

Dont discount the simplicity of the FREE SMF

it simple to use... the support is excellent, there are more mods than you can ever need (Except a great Thank you mod!)

And there are VERY large forums that run on it - they have a special club for them

    Just my 2cents

If you are going to use vBulletin, I would suggest getting it before they raise the prices ;)
