Very interesting article, I suppose I should start making videos now before it starts to cost me money. Its true, thousands of people are using youtube to advertise their site and its working. Lets hope that google stay user friendly for the time to come

    Alot of interesting points.

yah It seems like its the time to get some videos out there for marketing your site.

can get alot of traffic from youtube and it would suck if it cost money.

How many times have you gone to youtube and looked for a video and there is 5-10 duplicates and all are
totally misleading (titles) and 10 seconds or garbage or some little kid playing a prank? alot..
They might have the largest video database but they should really start cleaning up and making some rules
for submitters as its going to only get worse...

The article was good but there is still many options like charging to upload videos and conserve on bandwidth
and other things but i agree they better do something as i doubt the shareholders will want to lose money on
a property that isnt making money and only going to get bigger sucking up more resources..

You can be sure on 1 thing, When ever Google want to earn from YouTube they will and they can do it big time.

They are always trying many ways of ads locations and new options so it wont bother you (The normal user) and eventually you'll might prefer another video website.

Anyway, Don't worry nor any one who read the article, YouTube is a money-machine - If not now, In the future :)

I just hate the fact that google can charge money for youtubes.. regardless of that, people will want to use it. But imagine how much it will make.. :)

I don't see youtube as doomed, I see it as a great success and has the potential for much of the webs future.

I think the title of the article is overstated but the analysis and the conclusion is absolutely right-on. YouTube in its present form - free uploading for whatever your average teenager feels like recording - is probably not going to be the YouTube of the future. Google cannot monetize 10 or 15 videos of my son lip synching pop songs.

Ill agree with that... as they always got big brother google to flip the bill but
ill stay strong on my view of the junk videos thats allowed as sooner or later its going
to ruin the results when searching for the correct video.

Google can actually swallow the bitter pill of youtube's loss. They might have expected the loss.

So in reality nobody should want to own Youtube because not even google have found a way to monetise the gigantic movie website. Atleast for now!

lol was waiting for someone to say that term "rick rolled" (couldnt remember it) as thats what i ment by the kids misleading titles and
stuff then when you click to watch a video its some stupid kids prank or that dam music video lol (there is LOTS of that crap on youtube)

Not to thrilled about them allowing people to use foul language and allowing the personal attacks in comments
section either but whatever its there site...

LoL ... if they had a good and solid way of making money - they would be doing it ... do you really think that Google is deliberately pissing money down the drain ? Not even Google can afford to throw away money ...

Imagine if they sold Youtube on DP ... the good old 10 times the monthly earnings preachers would be eating their words ...

They need to cut down the shite and start working out contracts with more legitimate sources ... and reward the legitimate novice film makers and short movie producers ...

Last time hear that google have 1 billion cost just on bandwidth . Now this article say it $711 million total cost.

Even now google start High definition movies. their cost must double now. if they are in loss, why they started High definition.

Interesting article. A lot of numbers crunched to give it an air of authority. All in all though it's a piece to get people talking (which it has) and visitor numbers would be up at businessinsider.com
