    I noticed a very active site that chose to use a /sitemap.html page listing out all the links to map out the site.

    Does anybody else use this? Do you find it as beneficial as having xml site map?

    Never seen this approach before and wondered what others think about it.

    I always use it. It's one of the old bona fide SEO guidelines that will always work for you. I am not convinced XML sitemap participates in the PR channeling at least not as much as HTML interlinking does or HTML sitemap for that matter. Also think about user friendliness for a minute - humans use internet too! Sitemap is a great way to help folks find their way around your website.

    I use it, and it works like a charm. This HTML sitemap page has links to all pages on the website. What's more, the links are visually arranged in a hierarchical fashion, to show what pages belong to which article, like this:

    -Article 1 page 1
    --page 2
    --page 3
    -Article 2 page1
    --page 2
    --page 3

    etc

    It's useful to make sure search engines crawl every page, but as Exit13 pointed out, they are at least as useful as a directory for human users.

    I highly recommend it!

    It is beneficial in using a HTML sitemap as well as a XML sitemap. With the XML sitemap you can see the amount of pages that are indexed on Yahoo site explorer as well as Google Webmasters tool.

    I'm using it and updating it with every new page that I add to my website. Not sure if it works, but it doesn't hurt for sure.

    I use both. HTML is visible on my site. The XML sitemap is online, but there is no link towards it. I use the XML to submit to search engines.

    I almost always include an html sitemap. The xml sitemap is fine for robots but not of much use to your users. Be kind to your users!

    on one hand urls included in the XML sitemap can't be given any PR, since they are not presented as href links. But what happens if the actual xml file is linked from a PR'ed html page? will the PR calculation formula work for links in the xml file as well? I know it works for pdf and txt and even swf if these are linked or somehow embedded in the HTML. If the xml sitemap has any arithmetic PR value, will it further on distribute it among the links listed in it?
