You'll notice how important not having duplicate content is. In fact, its second behind 'server constantly down'.

You'll also notice how detrimental 'participation in link exchanges' is.

It was brought to my attention in a BPMA presentation called SEO 101 by Mike Volpe, a VP at an internet marketing company called HubSpot.

 

This is a good article that brings up a lot of good points, but I still think it lacks a lot of important and useful information for new webmasters that want to learn seo. Definitely a lot of big hitters like Aaron Wall and Danny Sullivan.

I wonder when the survey was performed... 2006? 2007? 2008? I wish publishers of surveys like this would expose the date range when the surveys were performed and give the date their articles are published on their site, especially SEO-related articles... so that the article can be read in the context of the time in which it was written. If the survey is 2 years old, lots of things have changed, a lot more is known, and their answers for some things in the survey could now be drastically different.

But still a good read none the less...

Near the top the post has a date: "Launched on April 2, 2007." It is an update of an earlier survey in 2005. Quite a lot changed in two years. So maybe they should/will update it for 2009???
