May be. So they are for many others. Even some of my websites are hosted on them and I own a reseller account for 4 years now that I use for my own sites. But I have taken out my performance sites from their umbrella. They are fine for small static websites. But when it comes to performance websites, HG is out of place due to overselling. A few years back the scenario was different but probably it is their policy to oversell.
Good support, good uptime for a very nice price. For 2 years they didn't disappoint me and they are well suited for beginners or professionals.
I'm sorry (and a little surprise) to read this. My experience with Hostgator - hosting performance and customer supports - had been support. It made me listed them as #1 on my new hosting review website. What kind of problems were you having back then? Are you having problem with the server performance (long down time?) or response speed?
Thanks for everyone who post a reply and it seems that alot of people think hostgator is the great hosting company and i liked that one of their good things : 24\7 live chat and i think the cpu usage isn't very affect my website and for who asked my website will be only a forum what do you think ?
I'm looking at hostgator also. I'm curious though, why is support so important? To me that would be the least important factor for a host. I'm looking to do ecommerce in the near future so downtime is not an option. For those who have said no down time, how do you verify that? Do that track that in stats? If so, perhaps I can find it in my current hosts cpanel. Is anyone using hostgator for their ecommerce store? I'm a newb on this stuff and the 1 dedicated IP per account confuses me slightly.
Used them for my first website, pretty great to be honest. I had some slow times but overall it was an enjoyable experience.
Support is important... you don't know when your server may have some strange problems which you can't resolve... only them. You can search on google for "site uptime"... there are several companies that offer monitor services for your site.
This is what I have used for an uptime monitor for my site hosted with them... http://host-tracker.com/website-monitoring-statistics/1963238/ff/
After server's reliability and uptime, support is the next most important thing in web hosting chain. If they're not online when needed, all your work can vanish in seconds. I've had my website hosted at HostUpon (really bad web hosting company, I wouldn't recommend them even to devil himself) and their support wasn't available at weekends, only perhaps for a half an hour in that two days. Then, one day one of my websites got hacked and due to my error, hacker got into my CPanel but as soon as I noticed this, I contacted them as I wasn't able to login into cPanel anymore (hacker changed my password). 22 hours later I received the response they changed my login data, but they haven't provided my with the new one. Hacker could do anything in those 22 hours!!! I contacted them for the new login data so I can assess the damage but I received no answer in the next 24 hours. Then in the Monday I received my new login data. It was the most terrible two days I've had since I'm in online business. Luckly for me, the hacker just changed a couple of irrelevant data in one of my websites. Now I've switched to HostGator and each time I see "Support is online now" and I see it whenever I go to their website, I feel like I'm not alone if problem occurs and that I'm safe. They do have 24/7 online support.
webhostingtalk.com banned me because a gave an honest review of a webhost company and a honest testimonial about a fella who sold me a pirated script and they blocked my account. Now hostgator is good when you need plenty of space but customer service is not great. They billed me twice one and refused to give me a refund I had to file a complaint with the Attorney Generals office just to get my money back After I cancelled my account with them they still attempted to charge my credit card but I was smart enough to cancel the card and request a new one I wont ever use hostgator again
CPU usage is recommended to be from 0.00 - 3% sometimes there can be major cpu load jumps when server might be doing backups. The cpu load is important for site loading time, but I find tthere service to be over priced.
Hi ... yes, HostGator is good, all around. Support, with personality, more often than not. One of my site has been hosted, with HostGator, for a year or so, and I have no complaints. Trying to find time to move other sites to HostGator. The 45-day money-back guarantee is super. Good luck.
