One of my client's site has more than 300 backlinks and all other SE show that but google just shows 0 (zero) backlinks to my site !! Is there a problem with the site or the backlinks ? Has it been banned from google - not sure if thats the case coz it has a top page ranking for a competitive KW. Please suggest and advise. Regards.
if it is still in google's index then no, it is not banned. Google updates backlinks at around once every 4 months. and they don't show all backlinks.
Googles just wierd with backlinks. Got a site started September 2005, got aboout 1000 backlinks in Yahoo/MSN, google now shows 6 backlinks and even they are internal links on my site. So, dont worry about it
Go to google.com In the search box, type in your full url, and perform search. If it returns 'No results found' , then your site is not in google's index or might be banned if you had an index earlier. Again if the backlinks are recently developed, it will take time to appear in google (i.e only after next google backlink update) For other search engines, backlinks will be reported as soon as the crawler picks it.
Well some days back it showed about 20 odd backlinks and now they done appear at all. Can anyone explain that ?
Better off checking for backlinks in MSN or Yahoo. Google does not list them all. In fact, I think it's only around 5% they show.
I have read that Google bounces between search databases. For simplicity, let's us say that they have DB1, DB2 and DB3. DB1 is their primary database, and it will show its results this week. Next week, they will need to update their DB1, so they will show you results from DB2. Two weeks from now, they will return to DB1, and on their next update of DB1, they will show results from DB3. This is how you find different results from week to week. I have one site that has thousands of backlinks to it. MSN credits me with roughly 15% of the known backlinks. Yahoo credits me with about 9% of the known back links. And Google credits me for about 1/2 of 1% of my total backlinks. Google has a different method for counting backlinks, so they will always show fewer backlinks than what really exists. Bill Platt
