Google suggested i use link ads!

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by fluid, Jul 13, 2006.

Google sent me an email this morning and suggested i use link ads to complement the other ads i have on my site. I am very skeptic of link units because it requires 2 clicks from a user to make money. So i would like to hear from people who already use link ads to advise me on how well they perform and whether it would benefit me at all on my site?

    Thanks a lot.

In my own experience, link units pay more than regular ad units. You just have to know where to place it.

Link units also attract clicks if you blend them well in navigational elements.

My Link Units are the HIGHEST paying/CTR ads on my site... I would definitely add them. But, as Art says, blend them in well with your navigational elements. (I actually think that's why they do have a high CTR).

I agree with geniosity. Another one of my biggest CTR boosters was taking off onsite advertising ("Advertise on this site") on your ads. It helps for article based sites.

I agree as most others. Adlinks are real money pullers as far as I've seen.

I was really lazy initially by not putting it in. But I realized my folly when I just tried with a few pages. Now I make sure that every content page of my site has an ad link with 5 links and it is at a place which will get the a decent ctr(inside the content).

I agree with most others, link ads can be a great way of getting people clicking. I myself have mistakingly clicked one on another site thinking it was the nav menu, so as long as they are placed well you will get lots more clicks than the traditional ads.

If you match the text of your menu to that of the ads it's very hard to tell the difference

Thank you FUCA for the link.

And thanks everyone for shedding light on the link ads. I need to think of a good place where i can put it on my site without causing much disruption.

Just wanted to share that I received a surprise mail from Adsense team. Basically they told me that I need to start using "Link Units" in my sites, LOL. I guess somebody is thinking I don't make enough :)

LOL, I don't know why, but after the regular ads format, I haven't actually tried anything else. Not even Google search box. I don't know what I'm missing, or NOT :)

Perhaps they have some sort of new evaluation system where, upon evaluating your site, they tick a few boxes on a form and it sends you the email with the appropriate wording?

Art, maybe. Plus I've been a publisher for slightly >1 year now. They have enough time to visit my sites and see what to improve, HEHE.

So do you plan to use the link units? Actually I'm too lazy to get back to my site design and put the darn codes in.

Link units don't fit any of my sites design and since I reduced the number of ad blocks to 1 per page (half-banner) income went up by 400%. Maybe on a new site, but for now I'm not adding new ad units.
