Converting a static site to dynamic

    Hi all,

I am planning to get a couple of e-commerce websites developed but before I proceed with finalizing the development company, I was thinking of creating static versions of sites to start off and when the sites achieve rankings in search engines on the merits of static nature, I would implement the dynamic things like shopping cart, etc..

I have a few concerns.. Would the process of converting the static site - ranking in search engines - to dynamic hurt the rankings?

When the cms is implemented on the site, can I retain the old pages without redirecting? New product pages can be added using the cms.

    Thanks

Well, it's difficult for SE to index dynamic sites when compared to static sites.

Also, if you plan to retain the old pages, as well as create new ones with same/similar content, then the Search Engine might consider them as duplicate content and penalize you.
