Alright so there is a lot of confusion on this subject, so I figured I would boil it down to a one line definition: In its simplest sense, PageRank is the transfer, containment, and distribution of trust from Google. So there you go... if you would like to read more about it, I wrote a blogpost on it here. I understand that this is a gross oversimplification, however I told you I would keep it newbie friendly. Thoughts?
Something else to bear in mind with Pagerank, is that the Pagerank you see displayed on toolbars and the like is just an approximate snapshot of your actual Pagerank. Internally, Google are constantly updating Pagerank, but they only update the toolbar Pagerank every few months. Pagerank can give you a rough idea of how much Google values a site, but it is not a good indicator of the true value of the site. Things like, how much traffic a site gets; how targetted and engaged that traffic is; how well the site structure converts visitors (to sales, etc); how valuable a visitor conversion is, etc, are a better indicator of the true value of a site.
Hi, To add to your mathematics, below is the chart to get more understanding how you can get PR by method calculating incoming links Hope it helps and give more direct calculation of maths , its not accurate but yes its more or less to the point and gives a rough idea what you need to have to have a desired page rank , Also its very clear that you dont need bulk links if you have some very good links
Yup that's because it's outdated. Google uses a different method for PR these days. Unfortunately no one has figured it out yet.
Good timing with this post... I've just written a blog article about the recent PageRank update, and specifically, the reasons why people should still maintain an interest in PageRank. Have a read at: http://www.zuludigital.co.uk/blogs.php?id=35
Pagerank is a factor that realy doesnt count so much. Have you ever see which factor is 85% accurate for a search term? In my kind of websites > 20000 cahchedate is the 85% factor, which can chase it with a lot of backlinks == more google crawl == fresher results ==TRUST
Are you saying that having 20,000 pages indexed in google is more powerful than PR itself? If so, then yes you are correct. However that is not exactly feasible unless you have a blog or forum. For the average business site, PR is what makes the difference.
No i mean sites that haves more than 20000 visitors from google .Results are good when they can be reached in sort period of time == crawl so backlinks helping results to be fresh. I have over 30000000(20 websites) results at google but that is nothing.
I have few ideas for newbies, that's way i got page rank for my site. even though my site is new. read more
Thats hardly newbie friendly In laymens terms its an unhealthy obsession, its a crack pipe for webmasters, it will make you do silly things and get your sites penalised, its a control mechanism, its a patent owned by google that webmasters attempt to sell. Tell it like it is for newbies. If i owned a patent and you tried to sell it id penalise you too. think of it that way.
It seems that as soon as we've figured out google's formula, they change it up. lol. It's the way of the world. Anyhow, solid definition. I'd say it's on point.
Excuse me but the quide you wrote for pr its useless. Pr doesnt make money vistors do i know sites with 5 pr and 20000 vistors per day and sites with 3 pr and 50000 visitors per day and sites with pr 4 and 300000 visitors per day all sites same niche and same content and same age 6 monts +/-(not total age) and 85% google traffic. So pr 4 is better from pr 5 ? Thats the way everybody make a conclusion about pr,simple thoughts which return stupid results. The truth is visitors are better from pr.So stop chasing your tail like a freaky dog and just expand what ever you doing learb from the leaders in each niche and try to be better from them. Its hard but its truth.
I have been doing a huge research on SEO techniques and I have come to a simple conclusion; a well structured website with a decent amount of good PR back links. But I wonder if I get listed in a web design directory, will this help my own page rank?
