    Are the themes they're using, custom or free?

    You can, just buy one, or learn how to customize an existing theme. They haven't really done a whole lot..all the functions and layouts are pretty common on both of those blogs.
    It's the images that make it stand out more..

    .it's good example of how using good quality images, and picking ads that match your content and design can change the whole look of a blog.

    View the source code to see. It's a theme sitting on Wordpress 2.6.2

    They look okay, you can find many quality paid themes that you can customize or pay to have customized for you. And it's not very expensive. I paid 100 for a multi use license recently and used it a couple of times. I recouped my investment very quickly and saved an enormous amount of time.

    Good theme designers take the time to code in a lot of nice extras like ad management, thumbnails, video support, etc. It's not worth your time to try and make a free theme do all these things.

    If you are in business find the design that suits you and buy it, install it, and get it working for you.

    If you are not in business or so broke that you simply can't buy one, I understand that. But you'll need to take more time to find something because the free themes seldom have the features that make putting up a great looking site and administering the backend seemless.

    These themes aren't that advanced, you could probably find a free one fairly similar, or even buy an inexpensive one.

    They both appear to be Wordpress themes, however, I don't believe they're custom themes as someone suggested. They both look like themes I've seen before.

    Do these websites belong to you? I ask because of the numerous Acai Berry ads thrown all over the place...

    Yup, both of them are wordpress. And they're absolutely custom wordpress themes.

    Normally, you will get something like these on mostly free wordpress themes (or even in the premium one):

    /*
    Theme Name: iNove
    Theme URI: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/inove/
    Description: Inspired by <a href="http://maczone.sk/">MacZone.sk</a>, created by <a href="http://www.neoease.com/">mg12</a>. It is very stylish, widget supported and doesn’t require any plugin.
    Version: 1.2.3
    Author: mg12
    Author URI: http://www.neoease.com/
    Tags: white, light, two-columns, fixed-width, theme-options, right-sidebar
    */
    Code (markup):
    Both of them didn't have any kind of those information on their style.css. So yeah, they're custom.

    Contact the owner at ryancanfield.com.

    Looks like he's a smart guy. Judging from some of his sites, he seems to have a knack for affiliate marketing too...

    Those are customized WP themes. Maybe done by him.

    Whois searches can tell you a lot.
