Search traffic dropped. SERP same. Explain this

During the last 30 days I have lost 11,000 visitors from Google. These visitors mean a lot to me. I did some research for my keyword ranking and found that most of them hasn't changed, except one which has dropped some 20-30 places. This keyword is responsible for most of my traffic drop.

But for the rest of the keywords too, traffic has been continuously dropping since the last 6-7 days. Surprisingly my SERP ranking on these words are exactly the same. What is happening? has people stopped searching?

Incidently, last week my PR increase from 3 to 4. But that is no bargain. I need my traffic back.

Please advice me what to do.

You should take the exact google search referrers when you traffic was ok and see if your site still shows up there.

Are your keywords associated with some specific event?

If that is the case, I guess the keywords must have lost its relevance after the event has passed...or just simply, people are no longer interested in your keywords...though I must say, I am just guessing here..
Btw....did you change your signature line after this incident or you always believed in it....It appears so very much true! :p

    Regards,

No my keyword isn't related to an event. It's a general term.

And yes, I tweaked my signature slightly after this incident. Previously it was "Nobody remains a virgin. Life fucks everybody." :)

There are many things that can cause a drop in traffic even if your SERPs or page (METAs) didn't change at all. Here are a few:

    1) If a more appealing competitor result moved up to replace a less appealing one. This can cause some of the people that would have clicked on your result to click on the new result.

For example, you rank #3 for blue widgets and your result talks about how to get the most out of your blue widget, compare prices, reviews, and watch video guides. #1 and #2 just say "buy your blue widget here" kinda thing. You're getting all the people who want to research blue widgets. Now, say #2 is knocked down to #4 and a new result moves up from #11 to #2 and also talks about comparing prices, reviews, and guides. With that result above you, you're going to lose a lot of your researching traffic even though you're still #3. The reason this may have showed a steady decline over days is that Google may have been testing them out by putting the new results there for periods of time for longer and longer over the days... or that it was slow to update all their servers. It may very well go back to where it was if Google is finding it not working out, however they decide that (*Cough* less PPC revenue).

    2) Google has been doing a lot with geo target testing, so even though you're seeing yourself in the same position you may not be anymore for other locations. You can test this using proxies and having friends in distant locations check for you.

    3) Google may be adjusting their broad matching in your niche and not grouping variations into your terms as much.

@Reseq: I think you are right about the geo targeting thing. I think this is what is happening.

it may be seasonal or just a fluctuation in searches, take football for example - footy sites die in the ass in the off season and pick back up in the footy season, celebrities also fluctuate - they may be more popular when a little controversy happens or go on tour ...

Maybe it's the same people searching every day or every week and they have already visited your site and seen your link many times - which leads them to ignoring it.

Possibly a few competitors have more appealing descriptions in their search results and are getting the traffic instead ...

Try to not rely on one or two search terms ... expand your niche or site topic ... I usually watch for what people are searching for - to get to my site and create a page or post based on that / or those search terms.
